Ingredients
Ingredient Notes
- Ritz Crackers – I prefer Ritz but other round salty cracker brands work just as well.
- Creamy peanut butter – creamy peanut butter is my preference but you can easily use crunchy. Any brand of peanut butter works for this, although I recommend avoiding a natural brand where the oil may separate from the peanut butter.
- Colored melting wafers – you can buy individual colors or use almond bark mixed with food coloring to create whatever colors you want.
- Candy eyes – here are the various white eyes I used. You could also use these fun colored eyes, but I personally prefer the white to pop against the color of the candy melts.
How to make monster ritz crackers
You are just a few steps away from having these cute cookies ready to eat! I wrote out everything you need to know below so simply follow the directions and you’ll be snacking away in no time.
1-make the sandwiches
- Begin by laying a piece of parchment paper onto a clean working surface.
- Lay 16 Ritz crackers onto the parchment paper then add roughly a tablespoon of peanut butter onto each cracker.
- Evenly spread the peanut butter around on each cracker then lay a second Ritz cracker on top of the peanut butter, creating a sandwich.
2- melt the chocolate
- Melt four ounces of purple melting chocolate in a small microwave safe bowl. To do this, melt the chocolate in 20 second increments in the microwave until it is fully melted. Make sure to stir in between each 20 second increment. The chocolate should be thin enough to dip the cracker sandwiches in.
- Repeat the process to melt the orange and green melting wafers so you have three bowls of different colored melted candy melts.
3- cover sandwiches in chocolate
- Once all the chocolates are melted, dip each peanut butter cracker sandwich into one of the bowls of melted candy melts. Place the cracker onto a fork and gently dip the sandwiches in the chocolate.
- Once dipped, return the cracker to the parchment paper and allow it to set completely.
Tip!
I like to do an even number of each color of the monster snacks just for visual purposes, but it really doesn’t matter that much how many of each there are. You could even melt one color of the candy melts and dip until that color runs out then melt the other color so you don’t end up with any excess candy melts left over.
4- Finish the Monster Snacks
Last but not least, let’s turn these chocolate dipped peanut butter crackers into peanut butter monster snacks!
- While the chocolate is still soft, add the candy eyes to the crackers. There is no wrong way to do this part, so get creative with your monster crackers. I like to do them all different so it looks like a bunch of different monsters.
- Once all of the eyes are added, let them sit until the chocolate is set so you can serve them without making a huge mess. If you want to speed up the process simply throw them into the fridge for 15 minutes.
5 – Serve
Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in a cool place until you’re ready to serve! These make great additions to boo baskets (just watch out for peanut allergies), Halloween party favors, or even just fun Halloween snacks for any upcoming parties!
Tip!
These don’t make the best Halloween party snacks for school parties simply because so many schools have restrictions against bringing peanut butter and sometimes nuts in general to school. If you’re looking for something good to bring to a Halloween classroom party, try these Halloween dirt cups instead!
Expert Tips & Storage Info
Add a teaspoon of coconut oil to the melting chocolate to make it easier to dip the cookies in.
Use pre-made peanut butter crackers to make these even easier.
Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to one week.
Skip the peanut butter and use melted chocolate chips or a no-not chocolate spread instead if you want to try these but don’t want to deal with peanut allergy concerns!
After Halloween is over, try these Ritz Christmas cookies so you can enjoy the same sweet and salty flavor throughout the holidays!
Recipe FAQs
Can I substitute peanut butter for anything else?
You can substitute the peanut butter for your favorite nut butter! You can also try things like cookie butter, sun butter, melted chocolate, or Nutella!
Can I use chocolate chips?
You can use white chocolate chips along with food coloring instead of the candy melts, but they are a lot tricker to get the coating correct. I would recommend using almond bark or melting wafers before trying chocolate chips. If you do use white chocolate chips, make sure they are a high-quality brand like Ghirardelli.
