These cute Christmas Oreo Balls are a fun and festive take on traditional Oreo truffles when made to look like little wrapped gifts! Oreos and cream cheese come together to make a fudgy center that’s formed into a square then dipped in melted chocolate and wrapped in a bow. These are sure to add a little extra festive spirit to your holiday season!
No Bake Oreo Presents
If you’re like me and love to entertain, you’ve got to have a few showstoppers recipes in your back pocket. These adorable Oreo presents are an easy way to wow a crowd at your next holiday party!
There’s no baking involved, however, there are a few moving parts because of the different colors and ribbon decorations, but none of it is hard. And to make things even easier, you can customize it to using just one color!
Oreo Christmas balls are anything but square. See what I did there?
They’re the cutest edible Christmas presents made with a fudgy brownie center that’s formed to look like a gift then wrapped in melted chocolate and decorated with a fancy little ribbon.
They’re an easy twist on easy Oreo truffles and red velvet cake balls and are about to become your new favorite Christmas dessert whether you’re hosting or offering to bring a dessert!
Why you’ll love this
- So cute – Oreo Christmas truffles are typically cute no matter what. I mean, who doesn’t love a bite-size little treat? But these? These adorable little presents take the cuteness level up a notch.
- Easy to make – sure there are a number of steps, but all of them are easy. Without the need to turn on the oven, it’s waiting for the Christmas Oreo balls to chill and set that’s the hardest part.
- Simple ingredients – this recipe for Oreo presents uses Oreo cookies, cream cheese, and candy melts. The number of candy melts you use depends on how many colors you want to use.
Ingredients
Ingredient Notes
- Oreo cookies – I like to use half regular Oreo cookies and half red velvet Oreo cookies just to have a variety on display. You can essentially use any flavor of Oreo you want for these square Oreo Christmas balls. Golden Oreos, peanut butter Oreos, mint Oreos, you name it. Use leftovers in this melted snowman bark!
- Softened cream cheese – bring the cream cheese out of the fridge about 30 minutes early so that it is soft enough to whip.
- Candy melts – these are used to coat the Christmas Oreo truffles and make the ribbons. Red, dark green, and white are all I used for the Christmas theme. Alternately if you don’t want to get colored candy melts, you could technically use white almond bark and add green food coloring, red food coloring, and blue food coloring. I prefer the candy melts myself! I do not recommend white chocolate chips.
- White sparkly sanding sugar – this adds an elegant finishing touch to your Christmas Oreo balls but it’s completely optional.
How to make Oreo Presents
If you’ve ever made Oreo balls of any kind (even if they’re these Grinch Oreo balls), you can make these cute Christmas Oreo presents! It’s as simple as combining the Oreo crumbs with cream cheese, forming into a square, then decorating with chocolate!
And if you’re more of a visual person, I’ve included step by step photos below so you know exactly how to make these Oreo cookie balls!
1 – Make the Oreo Mixture
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set it aside to use later. If you’re making a bunch of these (doubling or triple the recipe), you’ll want to line baking sheets, not just one.
- Using a food processor or blender, pulse the Oreo cookies until they are ground into fine crumbs. You really want fine crumbs, not bigger cookie crumbs. Transfer the Oreo crumbs to a bowl to use later. If you don’t have a food processor, you can put them in a zipper top bag and crush with a rolling pin too!
- Repeat the same thing with the red velvet Oreo cookies and put into a separate bowl.
- Add half of the cream cheese into a medium mixing bowl and using a hand blender (or electric mixer is fine), mix the cream cheese until it’s smooth.
- Add the regular Oreo crumbs to the mixed cream cheese and mix again until the Oreo and cream cheese mixture is evenly combined.
Tip!
After you’re done mixing the Oreo and cream cheese, make sure to clean the beaters so you don’t mix the black Oreo with the Red velvet.
- Then in another medium mixing bowl, add the other half of the cream cheese and beat on medium speed until smooth.
- Add in the red velvet Oreo crumbs to the mixed cream cheese. Mix the cream cheese and red velvet Oreo together until fully combined.
2 – Shape the Christmas Oreo Balls
- With a one and a half inch cookie scoop make evenly sized scoops of Oreo cream cheese balls. I normally do 1-inch balls but for these, I recommend a little bit bigger so you can turn them into squares instead of balls.
- Once you scoop out a cream cheese ball, mold it into a cube with your fingers.
- Place the cube onto the prepared baking sheet and once all of the cubes are created, place the baking sheet into the fridge for two hours. This will make sure the cheese has set and won’t reshape when dipped into the melted chocolate.
3 – Make the Chocolate Bows
- Melt whatever color of the candy melts you want to use for the bows. To do this, add the chocolate to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals stirring between each one I used white chocolate to do white bows on top of colored “wrapping paper.”
- Pour the candy melts into the silicone bow molds, making sure to wipe the sides of the molds clean. Refrigerate until the bows are completely set.
Save Some for the Ribbons!
Set aside about 1/4 cup of each color you’re making the bows to make matching ribbons! I like to make my bow and ribbon match – otherwise you really can use whatever color you want for the ribbons.
4 – Dip and Decorate the Christmas Oreo Balls
- Melt the chocolate you want to use for dipping the presents either in the microwave using the same method above, a Wilton melting pot (I love mine!), or using a double boiler on the stove.
- Dip one of the set Oreo truffles into the candy melts using a fork, coating it with chocolate. Tap the side or edge of the bowl to help get rid of any excess chocolate and then place on the same parchment lined baking sheet.
- Immediately top with sanding sugar and sprinkles if you want to add a little more fun to the presents!
- Repeat with 5-6 more truffles using the same color then repeat with another color if desired, or make them all the same color!
- Melt the candy melts you held behind from making the bows earlier in your preferred method.
- Place the melted candy melts in a piping bag or zipper top bag with the corner cut off and use the piping bag to carefully drizzle over the set presents to make a ribbon.
- Immediately top with a mini bow to complete the Christmas Oreo balls!
5 – Serve the Christmas Oreo Presents
Let the ribbons and bows on top of the Oreo balls set completely before you’re ready to serve! You can either put them in the fridge for a few minutes to let them chill faster or just set them out at room temperature (not a hot area) until it’s set!
Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days! Or give to friends and family along with these Christmas gift tags for a fun edible gift!
How to Store Christmas Oreo Balls
Store these Oreo balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. They likely won’t last that long but if they do, these no bake balls should be stored in the fridge!
You can also put these in the freezer for up to three months. Just make sure they’re completely set, put them in a freezer safe bag, and put them in the freezer. Allow them to thaw in the fridge overnight before eating!
Expert Tips & Storage Information
Use any flavor of regular-filled cream Oreos you like. Anything with more cream (double stuff Oreos or mega stuffed) will cause the filling to be too wet and won’t allow it to set and hold its shape properly.
Make sure to use the right ratio of cream cheese to cookie. No matter what flavor you’re using, or what combination of cookies you put together, just make sure to use an 8oz block of cream cheese for every 44 Oreos.
Use any melting wafer color options you want. I use red, green, and white for a variety of colors between the Oreo presents and the ribbons, but you can use any colors you want! Try to avoid making the present and the ribbon the same color, otherwise, the color won’t pop!
Work quickly. Be sure to add on the sanding sugar or any Christmas sprinkles before the coating sets.
Make sure to put the Oreo balls in a single layer on the baking sheet. If you stack them on top of each other while they’re cooling, they’ll get stuck together!
Recipe FAQs
Can I use a microwave to melt the candy wafers?
Technically yes, however, it’s not my top choice. Using a double boiler ensures the candy melts melt at a consistent temperature slowly and evenly with a smooth finish. If you do choose to use the microwave, use low heat (or the defrost setting) to avoid overheating and having the chocolate seize.
Microwave for 30-second intervals, stirring in between each one. Once it is almost fully melted, remove it from the microwave and stir until smooth.
Where to buy silicone mini bow molds?
Check the baking section of your local grocery store, Walmart, or craft store first. If no luck, you can always order them online. Amazon is usually a safe bet.
If you’re still unable to find them anywhere, you can always use edible markers and draw your bows on your Christmas Oreo balls.
How to store leftover Christmas Oreo balls?
These adorable treats should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. They make great little edible host/hostess gifts (no pun intended). Wrap a few in cellophane or a gift box and don’t forget to attach one of these printable Christmas gift tags!
