Water Summer Party themes
Unless you live in the Arctic, summer is hot. Everyone knows the best way to cool off is with water. Here are some of the best water-themed parties you can throw this summer.
Dunk And Donuts
This popular coffee shop is now one of the best-themed pool parties on the internet, dunk and donuts.
Beat the heat by turning your pool into a treat box, filled with colorful inflatable donuts. Dunk into the cool water and enjoy relaxing in the inflatables. Or try out one of these super fun pool games.
Continue the sweet treats outside of the pool with these delicious rainbow donuts or sparkling mint lemonade. Make it a whole day affair with these fun donut party ideas. You’ll find great decor, food, and favor ideas. Perfect for turning your pool party into a birthday party.
Waterslide Bash
No pool, no problem. Instead, use giant inflatables to cool off. You can find a local company to rent one through or buy an inflatable waterslide on Amazon for a reasonable price. Plus then you can use it all summer long.
Bring this waterslide theme to life with festive summer foods like homemade lemonade, tropical fruit salad, and creamsicle pool party cookies.
Slide into summer with this cool waterslide party theme. It’s fun for kids of all ages and can entertain them for hours.
Malibu Barbie
If Margo Robbie taught me anything, it is that you are never too old for Barbie. There are few things as stereotypical Barbie as a Malibu dream house, with a swimming pool of course, making this Malibu Barbie theme the perfect summer party theme.
Go all in on the Barbie theme with strawberry brownies, strawberry shortcake dip, and shirley temple ice cream floats.
Love the Barbie theme? Go check out these other Barbie party ideas!
Under The Sea
Life is just better under the sea. At least that’s what I learned from my years of watching The Little Mermaid as a girl.
This fun and simple under the sea party theme can be used in many different ways, both in and out of the water. Keep the party on dry land with this DIY ocean sensory bin, ocean popsicles, and clever clam sandwiches.
Or take it to the water with inflatable sea creatures and dive toys. However, you choose to bring this theme to life it’ll be a blast.
Popsicle Pool Party
You will be shocked by what you can call a popsicle by simply adding a stick. This chill popsicle theme is about far more than keeping cool with a tasty treat.
Get creative as you turn homemade brownies and rice krispy treats into popsicles. Play a game of giant ring toss or make your own popsicle decorations using a pool noodle. The possibilities are endless with this universal theme.
Back To The 90’s Pool Party
This 90’s themed pool party is the blast from the past everyone wants. Complete with cassette tape utensil holders and Kool-aid jammers.
It’s a fun way to celebrate your younger years with friends and family. Not to mention see how much the younger generation knows about 90’s.
Bring back some of your favorite treats with this Kool-aid pie and Dunkaroo dip. It doesn’t get much better than reliving the glory days with people you love.

Shark Party
What better time to throw a shark themed party than during shark week?
There is so much you can do with a shark theme. Take this shark attack drink for example. It’s fun and absolutely delicious. Or if you don’t want to do individual drinks, this shark punch is great too!
Or make these fun shark Jell-O cups that the entire family can enjoy eating together. Make the most of Shark Week this year, by going all out with a big watch party or having a simple family night with a few festive treats.
Catch a Wave Surf Party
No waves are necessary for this whimsical theme. Instead, hang loose with your friends at a cleverly decorated surfing party. Parties With A Cause gives you every detail on how to recreate this epic party.
Make your party even better with the addition of this fun beach cake. It’s super easy to make but looks great on a party table.
Keep the little guests busy with this interactive beach scavenger hunt. Or print out this summer word search for people to do as they please.

Nothing says summer like a classic water-gun fight. This water wars party is all about getting wet and having fun while doing it.
There are a ton of great ideas for decorating that will bring your party over the top without breaking the budget.
Don’t worry if you don’t have enough water guns, you can always try these water balloon games instead. They are fun for all ages and a great way to get the parents involved too.
Splish Splash Bash
Urban Mom Tales has so many great ideas for using things like water tables, splash pads, and even an inflatable dinosaur to make an eventful water party. Not to mention a fun DIY mural wall that the kids can go crazy painting with all sorts of materials.
This is a great way to use all those water toys you’ve collected throughout the summer!
Serve delicious creamy frozen lemonade for the perfect refreshing drink.
Wet’n Wild Party
The thing I love most about this Wet’n Wild party is the food ideas. You’ll find free tags that are perfect for setting up a water party snack table.
This party uses an inflatable waterslide to cool off but you can use anything to get wet, like this slip’n slide.
Let the kids go wild as they get wet with this simple but fun party.
Tropical Beach Themed Summer Parties
What is more summer than a beach with a tropical drink in hand and a lai around your neck? This section is dedicated to the best luaus, beach bashes, and tropical parties you can throw this summer.
Lilo And Stitch Luau
It’s hard not to love Stitch. He is just the right amount of weird, stubborn, and sweet. He was one of my son’s favorite characters we met during our Disney character dining experience. Safe to say I have a soft spot for all things Lilo and Stitch.
This Lilo and Stitch-themed luau by Poppy and Grace is a simple way to personalize a luau to your child’s interest. This idea can work for any character by switching out a few things.
Just promise me you’ll keep the Nutter Butter flip flops, but try it with these homemade nutter butters. They are so good you will thank me later.
Flamingo Party
I am not sure if it’s the vibrant pink color or that they are mainly found in tropical places, but flamingos are very summery to me. Especially when paired with the right flowers and a citrus strawberry mocktail.
I Think We Could Be Friends has a ton of simple DIY decorating ideas that would work for any occasion from a birthday party to a baby shower to a pool party.
Beach Party
Throwing a beach-themed party is pretty self-explanatory. Just think of all the things you bring to or find at the beach and use that to decorate. If you’re landlocked like me, this palm tree sprinkler and sand box is a decent alternative.
In The Play Room does a fantastic job with making everything on her food table themed. The only thing missing is these pudding sand bucket cups and a beach cake, then it’d be perfect.
Summer Beach Bash
What’s the difference between a beach party and a beach bash? To me, it’s all in the details and Kara’s Party Ideas is all about details.
You’ll find perfectly decorated table settings, an ice cream cart (or you could do an ice cream board), a beach ball-filled bouncy house, and a sunglasses stand. All tied into the beach color scheme with balloons. Every detail encourages you to have fun.
Luau Party
Luau’s are a staple summer party theme for a reason, everyone loves them. This luau does a great job of using cheap items to decorate, saving you time and money.
The only thing I would change is adding these delicious coconut chicken tenders to the menu.
Tiki Time
This theme highlights those expressive tikis. It reminds me of Trader Sam’s at Disney World with all the tiki faces, grass skirts, and vibrant umbrellas.
Giggles Galore has so many fun ideas for this tiki party. She has games, decor, and food ideas that her teenager loved. That gives me confidence in saying this theme can be used for any age and everyone will be happy.
Tropical Party
Mint Event Design does an incredible job blending all of the best things about summer into one tropical party. It has flamingos, pineapples, palm trees, and of course, bright vibrant colors.
My favorite thing is the pineapple donut board. Or the pineapple palm tree. Honestly, it’s all so good it’s hard to make up my mind.
The only thing missing is a strawberry mojito mocktail in my hand, complete with a festive umbrella.
Key West Party
If you have never been to Key West, think tropical mixed with the right amount of nautical but without the blues. The vibes of this Giggle Living party are the perfect blend of laid back while still having a good time.
Rather than focusing on setting up a big blowout bash, a Key West party focuses on setting up activities that are both fun and relaxing at the same time. It’s a great way for people to go at their own pace and make the most of the day with people they care about.
It reminds me a lot of my time at Beaches Turks and Caicos with the sand dollars, shacks, and drift wood signs. All that’s missing is a little homemade limeade!
Mediterranean Theme
Let’s start this by saying you do not have to rent a boat in Greece to recreate this Mediterranean theme. It would be amazing, don’t get me wrong, just not realistic for a summer party.
Instead, focus on the things you like about the party and use that for a backyard dinner party. These Greek lemon chicken thighs and Caprese salad skewers would be perfect for the menu!
Or skip dinner and turn it into a movie night and watch Mama Mia while you enjoy time with friends. The possibilities are endless.
Hawaiian Luau
If you have ever been to Hawaii you know how resourceful the locals are. Stacy Ling does a great job of highlighting that with her elegant Hawaiian luau.
All the table decorations are organic like flowers, oranges, pineapples, and more. She even uses the tops of pineapples as plate decor. It’s a great way to pay tribute to the home of the luau.
Make it even more fun by serving this simple tropical mocktail and this tropical fruit salad at the party. Perfect for the whole family.
Cruise Theme
Growing up my dad used to throw a cruised-themed New Year’s Eve party every year. Complete with his Hawaiian shirt and all. Everyone who came always loved it, so I can confidently say cruise parties are a hit (especially a Disney cruise theme party).
If you have never been on a Disney cruise before check out my post about the Disney Wish and what to expect on a Disney cruise to get a sense of what you’d experience.
Coastal Beach Party
Time to bust out those blue plates and wooden serving dishes for this coastal beach party. This is a great example of how to strike a balance between classy and over-the-top. It uses just the right amount of anchors and knots so the theme doesn’t get lost in all the shades of blue.
This elegant coastal theme works for a dinner party, boy baby shower theme, or girls’ night in. You really can’t go wrong with something this timeless.
Activity Themes
With school no longer in session, I am always looking for new and creative ways to spend time with my kids. Each year we do a summer bucket list and boredom buster jar that they love but sometimes it’s fun to do things with other people too.
These activity-themed parties are the perfect excuse to invite a few friends over and let the kids be kids while the adults enjoy quality adult time.
Art And Splatter Paint Party
Think paint and sip but with juice boxes. This is the perfect excuse to get together with friends and let the kids get messy while the adults hang out.

Go simple with just light snacks and an activity or all out with these fun art-inspired treat ideas that are perfect for an art party.
Bonfire Party
Throwing a bonfire party is a classic for a reason. You can’t go wrong with a fire, s’mores, and good conversation.
This is a great option for adults or teens who want to eat good food and spend time together. Got younger kids? No problem add one of these outdoor games and they will be entertained for hours.

Drive-in Movie Party
It might be getting harder each year to find a drive-in theater to go to, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make one in your own backyard. Sparrows And Lilly have some great ideas for throwing a festive backyard drive-in movie party. My favorite things are the cardboard cars. You can’t have a drive-in without cars.
You can never go wrong with popcorn, but you should check out my Instagram for my movie bucket ideas. You’ll love the themed individual buckets.
Outdoor Movie Night
This is another great option for an outdoor movie night, without the work of making cars for a drive-in theme. Life By Leanna shows how to make a comfy viewing area that will you will want to relax and enjoy the show in.
I normally recommend renting a screen from a company or DIY your own with a sheet. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how reasonable buying an inflatable movie screen is. I think it’s worth investing in if you plan on hosting one or more movie nights.
Summer Paint Party
The balloon arch by Beijos is the perfect inspiration for a paint party. It’s vibrant, summery, and makes you want to be creative. Not to mention is doubles as a perfect photo drop.

Book Swap
Grab those old beach reads and trade them with your friends for an easy, themed girl’s night.
Hosting What Matters has great decoration and snack ideas that are right on theme. Check out her literary cookies, they are adorable!
Not huge into reading? No problem. Trade out old baby books, clothes, or home decor instead. The most important part is spending time with friends anyway. And good food. I’d throw a party just to have an excuse to make this homemade Chex Mix any day.
