I may be the outlier, but I personally love it when people serve a fresh fruit platter at parties! Vegetable trays not so much, but I love being able to grab some fruit alongside all of the yummy desserts and snacks!
It’s even better when people serve fresh fruit and a homemade fruit dip like this one.
I’ve tried a lot of fruit dips – both homemade and store bought – and this is still my personal favorite. It’s a cream cheese based fruit dip combined with a little sugar and citrus for a refreshing flavor that’s great with all sorts of fruit!
This would also be really good alongside a dessert board that has fruit on it or even this summer charcuterie board! And of course it’s always a great option for baby showers, bridal showers, and birthday parties! It’s also a great addition to any backyard bbqs!
Honestly, it’s always a good thing to have fruit and fruit dip, no matter what the occasion. And this is the perfect dip for it because it’s just bright and flavorful.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Four-Ingredients – this recipe only needs four simple ingredients, likely ingredients you already have at home and if not, they’re readily available at any grocery store!
- Bright flavor – unlike some fruit dips that are just super sweet, this one has a bright and citrusy flavor that cuts down on the sweetness.
- Easy to make – all you have to do is mix, mix, and mix again! That’s it – easiest fruit dip recipe ever! It’s one of those easy recipes you’ll find yourself making over and over again!

Ingredient Notes
- Cream cheese – you want the cream cheese to be softened before mixing so that it’s easy to mix with the other ingredients. I recommend taking it out of the fridge about 30 minutes before you make this!
- Orange zest – make sure you are using fresh orange zest rather than the bottled orange peel. Orange zest is going to give you a much fresher flavor compared to the bottled zest (that’s really good in this cranberry orange bread).
You’ll also need some fresh fruit to serve with this fruit dip, any type of fruit works great! You could also serve it with some graham crackers, animal crackers, or anything you’d dip in this homemade dunkaroo dip too.
How to make this cream cheese fruit dip
It feels a bit silly to be even explaining how to make this sweet cream cheese dip because it’s so simple but here goes nothing!
This dip can be made in two simple steps!
Combine orange juice, powered sugar, and orange zest together in a medium size bowl until they’re well combined. You can either do this using a whisk, an electric hand mixer, or a stand mixer – your choice! Just make sure to give them a good stir until it’s thoroughly combined.
Oh and I recommend mixing it on low speed so you don’t get a face full of powdered sugar!
Once those are completely combined, beat in the softened cream cheese until the fruit dip is a good consistency. I recommend doing this with an electric mixer, doing it by hand with a wooden spoon or whisk will just take a long time to reach the consistency you want.
And you want it to be nice and smooth with all of the ingredients mixed together, no chunks of cream cheese anywhere to be found.
I highly recommend using a hand or stand mixer of some sort for combining the cream cheese, simply because it makes it so much easier to get the smooth consistency you’re looking for.
Once the dip is mixed, cover with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator to chill until you’re ready to serve.
Serve alongside your favorite fresh fruits – berries, pineapple, and grapes are all great with this! You could also serve it with fruit salad, fruit kabobs, or even with a sweet fruity dessert like pound cake or angel food cake.
Expert Tips
Store in the refrigerator covered until ready to serve. Place any leftovers back in the refrigerator after serving and use for up to a week before tossing.
Serve with a spoon in the large bowl of dip so that people can put some of this dip on their own plates unless of course you’re just making this for yourself, then dip away!
Double the recipe and keep some to enjoy with a little healthy snack with lunch or an after school snack during the week. It’s doesn’t just need to be served with a large fruit tray, you could easily just enjoy a little individual serving too!
Try this sweet dip in different flavors. Replace the orange juice and orange zest with lemon juice and lemon zest but cut the amounts in half (lemon tends to have a stronger kick than orange).
Recipe FAQs
Can you freeze fruit dip?
While you can freeze this fruit dip by placing it in a freezer-safe container, I personally don’t recommend it because the consistency of the dip isn’t the same when it thaws. It still tastes fine, it just doesn’t thaw as well. I recommend just whipping up a new batch in a few minutes instead!
How does long does homemade fruit dip last in the fridge?
This cream cheese fruit dip will last for up to a week in the fridge. That makes it perfect for taking to summer bbqs, family gatherings, and anything else you may need to make the dip ahead of time for!
How do you soften cream cheese?
Remove the cream cheese about 30 minutes before you’re ready to use it and it will soften to room temperature. I don’t recommend heating the cream cheese in any way to soften it. If it’s not softened enough, wait for a little longer to allow it to soften or mix it on its own with an electric mixer until it’s smooth and creamy.
