The best gifts for grandparents no matter their age or likes! Just stick to this grandparent gift guide and you’re sure to find something that they absolutely love!Office Depot sponsored this post, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’m one of those lucky people. I have still have three sets of living grandparents and one set of living great-grandparents, all that I’m fairly close to. And that means that my son has two sets of grandparents, three sets of great-grandparents, and one set of great-great-grandparents.
You could say that grandparents are an important part our life. And you’d be absolutely correct. They’re a huge part of our lives, so it’s no wonder we try hard to pick out gifts for them every year that are both meaningful and unique.
Keep reading to find out what we gave as grandparents gifts this year AND a big surprise announcement – big enough that our gifts made my mother-in-law cry!
Guide to the Best Gifts for Grandparents
When it comes to picking out grandparent gifts, I like to stick to gifts that fall into four different categories. It’s kind of like when you get married, the bride has something borrowed, something blue, something old, and something new.
When you’re picking out gifts for grandparents, go for one of these four categories:
- Something personal
- Something you
- Something funny
- Something to do
Not sure what I mean? Keep reading to see how you can turn these categories into the best gifts for grandparents ever!
Pick and choose from the gifts below or, even better, send a gift that combines all of these things in one incredible package.
Gifts for Grandparents: Something Personal
This gift category can be the hardest to pick out because it means knowing your grandparents well. Luckily most grandparents are happy to tell you stories and everything you want to know. Out of everyone, I’d honestly say picking out gifts for our grandparents is probably the easiest because they all have a particular set of likes and dislikes at this point in their lives.
My grandpa loves one particular college football team and fishing, my grandma loves turtles, and my other grandma loves her grandkids and gardening. It’s easy to pick out something personal that reminds us of them throughout the year.
As I was picking up our big gift of the year (check out “Something You” below) at Office Depot, I was surprised to find they actually have all sorts of non-office related gifts as well! And tons of small stocking stuffer size gifts, which was the perfect size to go with the other grandparent gifts we were giving!
For one grandpa, I picked up a box of chocolates (he’s a huge chocolate lover) and for the grandma – a little gratitude journal because she’s constantly posting on Facebook things she’s grateful for!
Something personal says, “Hey I know you, I was thinking of you, and I love you.” And what more can a grandparent want?
Gifts for Grandparents: Something You
Well this list has four categories for a reason – there is more that grandparents want.
Next category is the biggest one – something you. Whether it’s photos, a photo book, or a card with a personal note about your lives – grandparents want information about you and your lives. They want to be able to show you off to their friends, be able to cherish those photos, and have you close by even if you don’t live close.
This year for our main grandparents gifts, I decided to do a personalized wall calendar. You guys – it was the easiest thing ever. I literally just uploaded 14 pictures (one per month + one front and one back cover) on Office Depot’s website, and sent it to the store’s Workonomy copy and print center to print!
And best of all – personalized wall calendars are a same-day service. Perfect for someone like me who’s a total last-minute shopper! If you’re not a last-minute shopper like me, you can also get all of these things via delivery as well!
Calendars aren’t your only “something you” option. Office Depot offers a ton of photo and personalized gift printing options including photo books, photo canvas, holiday cards, and more! You can see all the personalized photo gifts here! !
And don’t forget to pick up shipping supplies at Office Depot and OfficeMax while you’re there. They have everything you need for shipping, including these padded envelopes that are already decorated – no wrapping required!
Our Big Announcement: Baby Joey Coming in June 2019
There’s another reason I decided on a calendar this year. I wanted to surprise the grandparents with a little big change happening in our lives next June!
I think they were a bit excited about the calendar. And our little surprise. I can’t wait to send all of my other grandparents the calendar and surprise too!
And just to clarify – I’m pregnant and due in June!
We don’t know yet if it’s a boy or girl and no, we’re not naming it Joey. I used that word because of our most recent trip to Australia. We’re super excited to be a family of four in 2019!
Gifts for Grandparents: Something Funny
See something that reminds you of your grandparents but in a comical way – that’s the perfect gift. Pick it up, send it with a sweet card with a note explaining why it reminded you of them, and there you go.
This could be anything from an inside joke, a memory you have with them from years ago, or something as simple as a child’s version of their favorite past time.
For my father-in-law for instance, he’s known for fixing things around his house and frankly, ours. So when I saw a miniature toolbox and tool set in the stocking stuffer section at Office Depot, I knew it’d be the perfect filler gift to go with his chocolate and calendar.
Gifts for Grandparents: Something To Do
Last but not least, one of my favorite things to include with any gifts for grandparents is something to do, specifically something to do with you.
Whether it’s tickets to a show or a concert (with you) or a note with a time to do a family FaceTime call, getting the chance to spend time either via camera or in person is probably the best thing you could give a grandparent.
To help out with this gift, I created some printable blank Christmas coupons and filled them in with things our grandparents can turn in for time with us.
Family dinners, FaceTime calls, photo books, sleepovers, and more.
In order to get the highest quality printing, I went ahead and uploaded the printable PDF file to the Office Depot online print and copy center (with my calendars) and had them printed on card stock.
Personalized coupons, especially if they incorporate fun things to do with family, make the best grandparent gifts ever because you’re showing again that you want to spend time with them! Just make sure to honor the coupons and encourage your grandparents to actually use them!
