As soon as I heard this month’s theme, I started thinking about what would I most want someone to bring me for hosting a party. And it hit me; I would want someone to bring me dinner. Seriously. After spending days getting ready for the party and already having a million dishes to do after the party, the last thing I ever want to do is make dinner. So my hostess gift idea today is dinner in a jar because that’s what I personally would want someone to bring me as a hostess gift.
Not to mention this is the easiest gift ever. All you have to do is find a jar, double your dinner recipe the day before the party, and put that delicious food in a jar with the free printable labels I’ve already made just for you.
And the labels say, “for the hostess with the most-dishes, almost like hostess with the mostess right? What’s a gift without a fun pun to go along with it.

Now you have to be a little smart about what dinner you make obviously. You can’t make pizza, sandwiches, or meatloaf. Those would all be gross in a jar, but there are so many great dinner options that are perfect for jars – soup, stew, pasta, etc. are all great choices. I made up some pasta and some of our favorite pesto, threw them both in a jar, shook it up, and called it a day.
If you want to make your jars even cuter, you can get rid of the inside portion of the metal lid and use a festive cupcake wrapper like I did. Don’t the green polka dots make it seem like I actually thought about this beforehand? And you know I have about a million of those cupcake wrappers lying around. If you want to be nice, you could also give your host the metal insert just in case they want to use the jar for something later and don’t appreciate a festive cupcake wrapper top as much as I do.
That’s it friends. And now that I’ve told you all what my perfect hostess gift would be, I am expecting to receive dinner in a jar from someone this holiday season. Better yet, how about tonight, I have no desire to cook yet again. Oh and don’t forget, no onions of any kind; anything else would be lovely.
