While I know not everyone loves it, I personally love a good baked ham, especially a sweet glazed ham! I’m pretty sure it’s because I love ham sandwiches and scalloped potatoes or maybe it’s just because I’m more of a pork person than a beef one.
Either way, I love a good ham and wish that we ate them more often!
This ham recipe would be perfect for either Easter Sunday or a Christmas ham with its apple cider glaze.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Simple – glazing a ham is simple and this apple cider glaze is made by just mixing up a few ingredients for the glaze!
- Flavorful – the combination of the apple cider and the brown sugar makes this into a sweet and flavorful glaze (but not too sweet!).
Ingredients
Ingredient Notes
- Apple cider mix – you can typically find this next to the hot chocolate mix (the same kind I used in this hot chocolate dip). This is more concentrated than regular apple cider and adds a nice flavor to the ham.
- Bone-in Spiral Ham – You’ll want a pre-cooked bone-in spiral sliced ham for this. You could also do something similar with a ham steak but the measurements would be totally different!
How to make a glazed ham
If you’ve ever made a glazed ham, you probably know how simple it is! This glazed ham has a unique apple cider glaze that adds moisture and sweetness both to the inside and outside of the ham in just a few simple steps!
Start by preheating the oven to 350°F. Place your ham in a baking dish.
Combine the apple juice, brown sugar, and spiced cider mix in a medium sauce pan and bring to a slow boil, then reduce heat to medium low.
Continue cooking until sauce thickens to glaze consistency, stirring often, to create your glaze. This will take about 10 – 15 minutes.
Now carefully pour half the glaze over your ham, spreading it evenly over the top the of ham. It’s okay if it drips off the ham into the baking dish!
Bake until center of ham reaches 140°F, about 1 1/2- 2 hours depending on the size of your ham.
Once ham is fully cooked, pour the remaining glaze over it and put it under the broiler for about 5-7 minutes.
Watch it carefully so the glaze just caramelizes and you don’t burn it. This will give you a nice caramelized outside to the ham when you fully slice it.
Remove from broiler and slice the ham fully while it’s still warm. Serve immediately or at room temperature.
This ham is great either served on its own or along with some bacon wrapped green beans and honey roasted carrots!
Or eat it sandwiched in between buns, these homemade crescent rolls or these yeast rolls! It’s also super tasty alongside these twice baked potatoes!

Expert Tips
Watch the ham under the broiler carefully as the glazed ham can go from glazed to burnt very quickly. You want it caramelized but not burnt.
Cook your ham for the amount of time that your ham package says. It’s typically based on the weight of you ham!
Refrigerate any leftover ham for up to five days then either freeze or throw away.
Freeze any leftover ham by placing slices in an airtight freezer bag for up to six months. Remove individual slices of ham and let them thaw in the refrigerator before warming up either on the oven or on the stove.
Recipe FAQs
When should you glaze a ham?
You should add the first half of the glaze before you bake the ham and then add the second half right before finishing the ham under the broiler.
Do you cover ham while baking?
You do not need to cover the ham while baking. The ham is already cooked and you’re just warming it at a low temperature, so there is no need to cover the ham.
