Why you’ll love this
- Very little prep – aside from cutting the fresh produce this board focuses on using things that you can easily buy at a store rather than make to save you time.
- Variety of flavors – since this is a dessert board everything is on the sweeter side, but the various treats range from tart to refreshing to decadent.
- Budget-friendly options – a lot of the things are store-bought which means having to buy fewer ingredients for each of the different items on the board to help save you money.
Baby Shower Charcuterie Board Ingredients
Ingredient Notes
I am including the list of all the finger foods I used on my board, but everything can be substituted or omitted.
This post is meant to be more of a reference point than a true recipe. Follow it to a tee if you wish, or be creative, you can’t go wrong.
- Fresh fruit – raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries
- Mini cupcakes – go with the mini ones so they fit well on the board!
- Vanilla dessert shells – use individual angel food cakes or you could even make my mini fruit tarts or homemade strawberry danishes or strawberry scones!
- Dipped Oreos – hand dip these for a personalized touch to best suit your theme. Or if you don’t want to do Oreos, you could do chocolate covered peanut butter crackers like my monster crackers!
- Vanilla & strawberry crème wafers
- White chocolate covered pretzels – you could also do pink ones or even a combo like my Valentine’s Day pretzels!
- Decorated sugar cookies – I tend to splurge and get these custom-made to use as the focal point of the board, but you could also just make these homemade cream cheese sugar cookies or these cut out sugar cookies topped with sugar cookie icing and make them yourself!
- Strawberry shortcake rolls – these strawberry cake balls would also work well!
- Confetti cake Pop-Tart Bites
- Pink snowballs – or just go with standard snowball cookies, they’re white and should match!
- Pink and white candies – butter mints, M&Ms, watermelon rings, Starbursts, Good & Plenty, pink Hershey kisses, mini Kit Kats, and salt water taffy.
Tip!
When I’m making any charcuterie board (other than my Grinch charcuterie board that was very specific), I often will just go to the store and find things that fit my color scheme and party theme. Since I knew I was doing a board for a girl baby shower theme, I went very pink with this board. But you could do any colors you want and just grab things from the store that make sense (kind of like I did with my Halloween dessert board).
How to make a baby shower board
The hardest part about creating a charcuterie board is picking the right board. I have an entire selection of boards and serving trays that I use regularly since I make charcuterie boards so often like you can see in this Taylor Swift party food post (there are 10 different boards – all with different boards)!
For this particular baby shower board, I actually used a large pink baking sheet, and it was perfect! You can also use a large cutting board, a grazing board (one of my favorite Mother’s Day gifts ever), or a regular cookie sheet.
Once you’ve decided which board you are going to use, you’re ready to begin.
1 – Prep The Ingredients
- Prep all your ingredients like cutting the fruits and unwrapping the foods. I recommend not taking the small things out of the package just yet – you’ll want to just pour on the amounts you’re actually using, not pour out the entire bag.
- Fill in any bowls you are using with seasonal fruit, small pieces of candy, and dried fruits.
- Gather all the large items you have and place them before you. Include any bowls you plan on using. This is a great way to help see how many items you have and start to visualize where they are going to go.
2 – Fill The baby shower charcuterie Board
- Begin placing the larger food items, bowls, and bite-sized desserts at various places on the board. I like to put the custom sugar cookies on top so they stand out, so set those aside for now.
Tip!
A good rule of thumb is to work with odd numbers and keep the bunches small to start. No need to pile fifteen cupcakes on at one time, just replenish as needed throughout the night.
- Once you have arranged all the large items on the themed board, start to fill in the smaller items. This is a great way to add a splash of color by creating a stream of brightly colored gummy candies next to a pale cake.
- Keep adding and adjusting as you go until you have everything on the board and are happy with the way it looks. I like to add on the smallest things last to fill in the little gaps and spaces on the board!
- Top with those set-aside sugar cookies throughout the board. They’re the perfect way to finish the board and really give it that baby shower look!
3 – Serve
- Serve immediately, or wrap it up until you are ready to serve. If using fresh fruit, it is best to store it in the fridge until served.
- Once ready to serve, place the beautiful charcuterie platter in the center of your table along with a variety of serving utensils.
Enjoy the board with the expecting mother and her family and friends! She’s going to love it!
Tip!
When the baby shower is winding down, put out little plastic baggies or containers tied with these cute baby shower gift tags and let people take a sweet treat home with them as a baby shower favor!
Expert Tips
Fresh herbs like mint are an easy way to add color without being overpowering.
Focus on good food, it can be tempting to put more and more on the board, but remember people are going to eat this so make sure everything you put on is worth eating not just pretty.
Choosing a color palette is helpful in keeping everything looking intentional and building a beautiful grazing board.
Avoid varying heights. While you don’t it to look flat, you also don’t want any drastic height differences that distract the eye. Keep everything within six inches or so. For example, rather than using cake pops, try cake balls without the sticks. Same product but is more visually appealing on a board.
Wrap the board tightly with plastic wrap for transporting. Then just carefully unwrap when you get to your location!
