This hilarious bunny hop game will have everyone laughing as they try to either end up with the bunny that’s hopping around the circle or not be the last one to grab an egg from the middle when the music stops! It’s an Easter game that combines the classic games of hot potato, spoons, and a game of luck – and everyone will love playing it!

Musical Bunny Hop Game
Two classic games that almost everyone knows are hot potato and spoons. We thought it’d be fun to create a brand new Easter game that combines elements from both games and hope that it’ll be one of your favorite new Easter games!
In this fun Easter activity, players have to pass a bunny around the circle to music while trying to pay close enough attention to notice when the music stops quickly so they can grab an egg from the center before everyone else does.
Not quick enough? They’re out of the game! There’s a little more to it than that, but it’s fun either way! Whoever makes it all the way to to the end of the game without getting out wins!
Why You’ll love this game
- Easy to setup – all you need is a stuffed bunny (or something to represent a bunny), some plastic eggs, some small prizes, and music.
- Fun for all ages – you can play this with any age from kids to teens to adults.
- Easy to play – unlike some games that are more complicated, this one is super easy to play. Pass the bunny, grab an egg.
How to Setup the Bunny Hop Game
There is very little to setup for this game, which is why it’s a super easy one to play or add to your Easter activities, even last minute!
Recommended Group Size
This game is recommended for groups of 20 or less. If you have more than that, it’ll likely be too big of a circle for people to get an egg!
1 – Get the supplies together
Start by getting your supplies together. For this game, you’ll need:
- One stuffed Easter bunny (or something to represent an Easter bunny)
- Speaker – you’ll want a Bluetooth speaker or some other sort of speaker hooked up so that people can actually hear the music playing.
- Plastic Easter eggs – two less than the number of people playing, so if you have a group of 10 people playing, you’ll need eight Easter eggs
- Small pieces of paper – you’ll need the same number of pieces of paper as you have Easter eggs
- Prizes – you’ll need one larger prize for the ultimate winner and smaller prizes for the individual round prizes (see how to play section below to determine the number you’ll need). I have ideas for prizes at the bottom of this post.
2 – Fill Your Eggs
There are two variations of this game that you can play. Variation one will be a longer game and will just have one person getting out each game. Variation two will have two people getting out each round and will end up with a much shorter game.
For variation one, you’ll be writing a star on one of the pieces of paper and placing it in a random egg. Then place a blank piece of paper in all of the other eggs.
For variation two, write a star on one of the pieces of paper and an X on another piece of paper, then place them both in different eggs. Fill the rest of the eggs with blank pieces of paper.
3 – create a prize bucket
The last thing you’ll need to do is put all of your smaller prizes in an easily moveable prize bucket so that you can hand it to the lucky player after each round to quickly pick a prize so you can keep the game moving.
If you need prize ideas for the small prize bucket, these are the kinds of things we included. Everything was in the $1-3 range.
- Candy – Easter gummies, gum, Kinder eggs, and other various full-size candy options. You could definitely make them fun-size as well if you are doing this with smaller kids.
- Snacks – meat sticks, sunflower seeds, snack bags, cans of chips, and so on.
- Beauty items – hair clips, face masks, chapstick, nail polish
- Hobby items – Pokemon cards, baseball cards, golf tees, card games, activity books
How to play This Bunny Hop Game
This game is super simple to play once you know how, which is why it’s so fun!
1 – setup your game
Have everyone sit in a circle on the ground, close enough that they can quickly pass the bunny from player to player. You could technically sit on chairs or couches, but you’ll need to grab eggs from the center quickly, so that could be chaos. Your choice.
Place all of your eggs in the center of the circle, including your special star-filled egg (and X-filled egg if you’re playing that variation). You’ll want to make sure you have the number of eggs that is equal to your group number minus two.
So for example, if you have twenty people playing, you would have 18 eggs in the circle for the starting round. If you have ten people playing, you’d have eight eggs in the center.
Have someone (could be you or someone else) in charge of the music and make sure they’re facing away from the group, so they can’t unfairly stop it on whoever they want.
Give someone the bunny to start the round.
2 – play a Round of Bunny Hop
Start the music. As soon as the music starts, the player with the bunny quickly passes the bunny to the person on their left, and the bunny continues passing around the circle clockwise until the music stops.
When the music stops, the person with the bunny in their hand is safe for the round. Everyone who does not have the bunny has to try and grab an egg from the center because the person who doesn’t get one is out.
Tip!
I recommend that anyone who has really sharp or really long nails sits out of this game. Everyone is moving very quickly and long nails can accidentally get broken or do some pretty good damage on other people’s hands. If you need games that work better for long nails, any of these Easter egg games would be great!
After everyone has grabbed eggs (other than the person who is out), they should open their eggs and see what’s inside.
- If their paper is blank – they are safe until the next round
- If their paper has an X (if you’re playing that variation) – they are also out of the game, this is why this game will go quicker with the X variation.
- If their paper has a star – they win a prize out of the small prize bucket
Once the papers have been revealed, remove one of the eggs that has a blank piece of paper, shuffle the eggs, and put the rest back in the middle of the circle for the next round.
3 – continue playing normal rounds
Keep playing rounds, getting someone out each round, until you only have two players left. In each of the other rounds, someone will stay in with the bunny, someone will get out who doesn’t grab an egg, and someone will win a small prize.
Keep going until there are only three people left in the game, then move onto the final round rules below.
4 – Play the Final Rounds
For the final two rounds of the bunny hop, you’ll be doing things slightly different.
Start by removing the X egg if you’ve been playing with an X egg.
- Second to last round – you’ll have three players and two eggs. One should be a blank egg and one should be a star egg. Whoever ends up with the bunny and the star egg stays in (and star wins a prize) and whoever ends up with the blank egg is out.
- Last round – you’ll have just one blank egg and no bunny. This is a speed round completely – whoever grabs the eggs first when the music stops wins.
How to Win the game
In the final round of the game, whoever grabs the egg first when the music stops is the ultimate winner. They should win whatever your large prize is!
