It’s chewy toffee candy that’s dipped in a white chocolate coating and then covered in delicious cinnamon sugar. The perfect Disneyland churro toffee recipe to hold you off until you can get back to the Disneyland resort and theme parks.
Copycat Disneyland Churro Toffee
One of the best Disneyland foods (or at least most popular) is the churro toffee you can find at bakeries throughout the parks! It’s good whether or not you’re a Disney fan so don’t let that keep you from reading this post!
Those of us who are not lucky enough to live within driving distance of the downtown Disney district know how hard it is to curb those cravings for your favorite Disney treats. Whether it be a little grey stuff or Butterfinger cupcakes, it’s hard to get those Disney snacks out of your head!
Finding good Disneyland copycat recipes is a tall order as well, not to mention not nearly as much fun as being in the Disney parks.
That being said, this recipe is as close to the amazing churro toffee you can buy at the Disneyland bakeries without being a professional baker yourself. So it’s pretty much as good as you’re going to get without hopping on a plane to Anaheim!
This homemade toffee features crunchy buttery toffee blanketed in melted white chocolate that’s then covered in a cinnamon sugar mixture resulting in a tasty treat that is surprisingly easy to make, even on your first time.
This Disney churro toffee recipe makes a great addition to any Disney-themed party as well as a delicious treat for Cinco De Mayo or the holiday season!
Why you’ll love this Churro Toffee
- Makes a large batch – this recipe can easily feed a crowd by simply cutting the buttery toffee squares into smaller pieces.
- Surprisingly easy to make – using a candy thermometer can be daunting the first time, but you’ll love how simple the process is.
- Perfect for any season – you can easily bring this treat to a Disney movie night, or holiday party, or a spring baby shower. This homemade English toffee is a great fit no matter what the occasion is.
Ingredients in Churro Toffee
Ingredient Notes
- Butter – salted or unsalted works just fine for this recipe!
- Sugar – you’ll want to use granulated sugar for this, not brown sugar or powdered sugar.
- White melting wafers – I suggest using Ghirardelli because it sticks better and is of higher quality, but you can us another brand if you want. I don’t recommend using white chocolate chips because they just don’t melt and dip the same way! Salt – while I have pink salt photographed in this post, you can use whatever salt you want. It all works just fine!
Required tools
I highly recommend investing in a candy thermometer to use for this recipe so that you can track the temperature of the toffee mixture. You could technically use an electronic meat thermometer, but I’ve found they’re not quite as accurate when making candy.
How to make Disneyland Churro Toffee
Making Disneyland churro toffee is about having the right equipment and following the instructions.
Everything you need to know to be successful is written in the instructions below, along with pictures to keep you on track. You’ll also find a printable recipe card at the bottom of the post if you want a printable version!
1 – Make The Toffee
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper then spray the parchment paper with nonstick spray. You can also use a 9 x 13 pan or jelly roll pan if you don’t want your toffee as thin.
- Add the butter, sugar, salt, and vanilla to a large saucepan. Cook all the ingredients on medium heat, stirring rarely just so it doesn’t burn the bottom, until they come to a light boil or simmer (285 degrees F on a candy thermometer).
Tip!
Don’t walk away from the toffee mixture. You want to make sure and stir it regularly so the bottom doesn’t burn and ruin your toffee. Also, you want to take it off the heat as soon as it hits 285 degrees so I recommend just hanging out, stirring, and checking the temperature regularly until the magic happens! It doesn’t take too long so just wait it out without getting distracted!
- As soon as the boiling mixture reaches 285 degrees, immediately take it off the heat and pour the toffee mixture into the prepared baking sheet.
- Smooth out the mixture using a heat-resistant spatula or wooden spoon and let the toffee cool for five minutes.
- While still warm but not so hot it will burn you, use a serrated or plastic knife to cut toffee into desired pieces. If it doesn’t cut all the way through, that is okay, it’ll easily break apart when cooled if dividing lines have been precut into it. I cut mine into 12 sections to make it larger like Disneyland’s churro toffee but you can make it whatever size you would like.
- Set the toffee aside and allow it to cool completely.
2 – Prep The Toffee Coatings
- Once the Toffee has completely cooled, break it into pieces.
- Melt the white chocolate wafers in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl that ideally has a wide opening that you dip through the toffee pieces through. Melt in 30-second increments, stirring between increments, until the chocolate is fully melted. Keep a close eye on the chocolate to make sure it doesn’t burn while you melt chocolate.
- Combine the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl for the churro topping.
- Line another baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
3 – Dip And Serve
- Rip off another small piece of parchment paper and lay it out flat on your working surface. Sprinkle two tablespoons of cinnamon sugar on the parchment paper then form into a square the size of your toffee pieces.
- Pat off any butter (aka fat) left on the toffee. Dip each piece of toffee into the melted chocolate making sure to coat the sides and the edges.
- Immediately lay the toffee into the prepped small cinnamon sugar square. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top of the toffee making sure to get around the edges until it is fully coated.
- Once the toffee is coated in white chocolate and cinnamon sugar, lay it on the prepared baking sheet.
- Repeat the dipping process until you have coated all your toffee squares.
- Let the toffee set for an hour or until the chocolate has fully dried then plate and serve!
How to Store Churro Toffee
Store churro toffee in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
Freeze churro toffee by wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap then placing each individual piece into a freezer safe container. Freeze for up to three months and just take out pieces and allow them to come to room temperature before eating!
Expert Tips
Don’t use a pan larger than a cookie sheet. If you use a larger pan and the toffee is thinner, it can break super easy. If anything, use a smaller pan like a jelly roll pan for thicker pieces.
Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to keep the toffee from burning or if you don’t have one, just make sure to stir regularly.
Wrap up pieces of churro toffee and add a thank you tag for the perfect gift for a Disney loving friend!
Recipe FAQs
Where can I buy churro toffee at Disneyland?
You can find churro toffee at Disneyland at the Trolley Treats, Candy Palace, Candy Kitchen, or Marceline’s Confectionary. And if you can’t get to Disneyland, you can just make it here!
Is toffee supposed to be hard?
Toffee is a hard candy, so when it cools it should break when you try to bend it. This toffee is slightly chewy but definitely hard!
Should you stir toffee?
Toffee should only be stirred to avoid it burning on the bottom, stirring too often will cause it to separate and not set correctly. But don’t be afraid to stir ever because it will burn if you don’t stir at all!
