These Cinco De Mayo bingo cards are the perfect addition to any Cinco De Mayo party! Whether you’re having a fiesta with friends or family, everyone will have a great time seeing who can complete their bingo first! And with 20 unique cards available, there’s enough for everyone to play!
Bingo is one of those universal games that can be played at almost any age. I have great memories of playing Christmas bingo with my then-one-year-old son. He loved helping me find the images then getting to pick out his own prize when he won.
Now we pretty much play bingo with the kids for every holiday. Valentine’s Day bingo, Easter bingo, even Halloween bingo.
So of course I had to make some Cinco De Mayo bingo cards! What’s a fiesta without a few party games?
Play this Cinco De Mayo bingo game while everyone enjoys some Mexican desserts for all sorts of festive fun!
What You’ll Need To play
Bingo is one of those games that are easy to set up and require just a few things before you are ready to go. Here’s everything you will need to be ready to play.
- Bingo cards – ideally you will have at least one per person. If your family is like mine, most people want to have a few options to choose which one has the luckiest vibes, so I recommend having at least one per person, if not more! Get them at the bottom of this post!
- Bingo markers – you will need something reusable, so pens or markers won’t work unless you are only planning on playing one round. I recommend something cheap like beans or Cheerios, especially if you have little kids playing or you can use my favorite, these bingo markers.
Recommended Markers
I have these bingo markers and love them. They come in a big bag of 500, which is enough for a group of twenty playing to have enough to cover their cards! Plus, they’re colorful and fit on pretty much all of the bingo cards we offer.
- Calling sheet – two copies of the calling card comes with the bingo cards. Cut one of the copies so you have all the images out then place them in a bag for safe keeping and easy drawing when the time comes. The other will be used as your master!
- Prizes – this is always optional, playing for glory can be just as much fun. However, I have found from years of playing bingo that prizes get people even more excited to play. They don’t have to be expensive either, a few bucks per prize and you are good to go. I have included a list of my favorite prizes for a Cinco de Mayo party below to help get you started.
Get the Game Set Up
Once you’ve got your supplies gathered, the hardest part of the set up is already done. Now it’s just a matter of making sure everyone has what they need to play.
Set up the prizes – you can either have one prize per round or set up a prize table for the winners to pick what they want. If you are hosting a large party, you could have each guest bring a couple of prizes to contribute or just provide them all on your own!
Next, hand out each bingo card or allow each person to pick their own, whatever works best for your group. Just remember one card per person.
Each person will also need a handful of markers. If you are using edible markers, you might want to give them a few extra if they’re edible because people often snack on them!
Finally, it’s time to pick a caller. You can choose one caller to call the entire time or mix it up each round. Either way, the caller will need the calling sheet and the bag of cut cards. Oh and don’t worry, the caller can still play while they pull cards, so no need to fight over who has to call.
That’s it. You are ready to start!
How to Play Cinco De Mayo Bingo
This version of bingo is very similar to the original game of bingo just without numbers and letters, making it easier for all ages to play together. Once everyone has their supplies it can be played in just a few simple steps.
Here are the basic instructions for playing bingo. In the section below you will find some fun modifications for you to try out to spice up your game.
- Have the caller randomly choose one card piece from the bag then loudly announce or show what the image is. For example, if they pull the card with a picture of a sombrero they would announce it and show the picture for anyone who might need a visual. They will then place the card onto the correlating spot on the calling sheet.
- After an image has been called, the players will try to locate that image on their sheet and then place one of their markers over that image. Just a friendly reminder, not all sheets will have all the images.
- Once enough time has been given for your group to find the called image, the caller will pull another image and repeat the same process.
- The game continues in the same way until one person gets five images in a row either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The person who gets five in a row will call out bingo.
- The person who bingos gets a prize.
- The game is either continued until an allotted number of people bingo or the game is reset. To reset the game all the calling cards need to be returned into the calling bag and each person must clear their bingo board of any markers.
More ways to play
Looking to change it up from the traditional bingo game? The best way to do that is to change up how you get a bingo. Here are some of my favorite ways to bingo other than the standard five in a row.
- Four corners – cover all the corners of the card.
- Postage stamp – cover four spots, making a small connected square, anywhere on the board.
- X – cover both diagonals, creating a large X on the card.
- T – cover the middle column and top row to create a large T on the card.
- Cross/plus – cover the middle column and middle row to create a plus sign.
- Bring a friend – first person to bingo gets to bring a friend with them to choose a prize!
- Biggest loser – the last person to place a marker, wins.
- Black-out – first person to cover their entire board wins, this is a fun way to end and gift a bigger prize.
Cinco De Mayo Bingo Prizes
As promised I’ve included some of my favorite bingo prizes. Depending on how you want to play, you can either set up a prize table for the winners to come and pick what they want or you can have each round dedicated to one prize. Either way, these prize ideas work great.
- Cinco de Mayo Party Favors – things like mini maracas, silly glasses, or fiesta pens are great for a classroom setting.
- Variety of Mexican seasonings – fun idea for adults.
- Drink mixes
- Festive apparel – get a variety of items like fiesta shirts, fiesta hoop earrings, and a festive bucket hat.
- Candy – this can be traditional Mexican candy or fun gourmet candy.
- Gift cards – these are great for blackout prizes
- Piñata filled with candy
Tips & tricks
Laminate your bingo cards this makes it easy to clean and avoid getting them ruined. It also allows you to use dry-erase markers instead of little pieces that can easily get knocked around.
Print extra cards to ensure that everyone can play. Things happen, especially when little kids are around, having a few extra cards allows for accidents.
Describe the images pulled thoroughly so everyone knows what image you are talking about. In large groups, it may be hard to see what image is pulled. There’s also a chance that not everyone, especially kids, will know what a maraca is, so describing what the image looks like is really helpful.
Buy extras if using edible markers. Having edible markers is great for littles but also almost guarantees that they will be eaten throughout the game, so make sure to give people plenty and have extras readily available.
Provide snacks for people to enjoy in between the games! These delicious Mexican appetizers are always a huge hit.
Game FAQS
How many bingo cards are there?
There are 12 unique bingo cards available to download at the bottom of this post. If you need more than that, you can purchase a copy in my shop.
Do these cards work for blackout?
There are 33 total images split up across the unique cards, which means that not everyone will have every image on their card. These cards do work for blackout but because there are only nine extra images, it is possible that more than one person will blackout at once. If you do blackout and there’s a tie, you could ask a fun Cinco De Mayo themed trivia question to choose a winner!
