Homemade Tigger Tails (A Disneyland Copycat)
If you’ve been around for a bit, you’ve probably figured out by now that my family and I LOVE all things Disney! I actually just got back from a trip to Disneyland to check out all of the best Disneyland food and Disneyland Halloween treats!
One of my favorites is the Tigger Tails from Pooh Corner – they’re marshmallows coated in caramel then coated in chocolate and sprinkles. They’re so much better than just normal chocolate covered marshmallows, so good I had to make a copycat version at home!
This recipe for Tigger Tails is one I’d like to think falls under the category of “even better” homemade. Plus, they’re utterly adorable, so easy to make, and will help bring a little Disney into your kitchen!
Ingredients
Ingredient Notes
- Lollipop sticks – Make sure you’re using ones that are long enough and sturdy enough for these. I like these ones.
- Kraft caramels – I highly recommend using Kraft caramels!
- White chocolate melting wafers – my favorite kind are Ghirardelli melting wafers because they melt smoothly. If you can’t get the melting wafers, you can also use white candy melts.
- Orange candy coloring – Use candy coloring, not food or gel coloring.
- Orange sanding sugar – you can use sprinkles if you want but I prefer sanding sugar because it’s lighter and sparklier.
- Coconut oil or heavy cream (optional) – A bit of coconut oil can be added to the chocolate if it needs to be thinned out and heavy cream can help thin the caramel if it’s too thick once melted.
Why Treats on Sticks are the best!
One of my favorite things about serving things on sticks (like these Mickey Mouse cake pops and these chocolate covered Peeps) is because you can serve them either on a tray/platter or you can put them into some sort of jar or cake pop holder to give a dessert table some height and intrigue!
These Disneyland Tigger Tails are perfect for this! Plus, things on sticks just taste better – it’s a proven fact, well at least proven with my two boys!
How to make Disneyland Tigger Tails
These Disneyland treats are actually easier to make than you think, and I’ll walk you through each step to make it even easier!
1 – Skewer the Marshmallows
The first thing you’ll need to do is line a baking sheet with parchment paper so the tails don’t stick!
Then put the marshmallows our marshmallows on each skewer or lollipop stick. You can make them straight or stagger them a bit to make it look like wavy tails.
2 – Coat with Caramel
Once your marshmallows are skewered, it’s time to coat them ooey gooey caramel!
- Place the caramel in a small saucepan and heat over medium-low heat until the caramel is completely melted. Once it’s melted, remove it from heat so it doesn’t burn while you’re coating the marshmallows.
Tip!
If the caramel is too thick, you can add 1/2 tsp of heavy cream to thin it out. Don’t add water as tempted as you might be!
- While the caramel is still warm, use a wooden spoon to pour caramel over top of the marshmallows to completely coat them in caramel – allowing any extra caramel to drip off the marshmallows and back into the pan!
- Place the coated marshmallows on the prepared baking sheet and repeat this process until all of your marshmallows are coated!
- Chill the caramelized marshmallows in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
3 – Coat with Chocolate
Once the caramel is completely set, it’s time to coat the Tigger Tails in white chocolate!
- Place the white chocolate in a deep microwave safe dish (deep enough that you could dip the marshmallows into the dish).
- Place in the microwave and melt in 30-second increments, stirring between increments, until smooth.
- Once it’s fully melted, add a drop of orange food coloring to the white chocolate and stir. Continue this process until you get the orange color you’re looking for.
Tip!
If the chocolate is still too thick, you can add 1/4 tsp of coconut oil to help thin and smooth it out a bit!
- Dip the marshmallow skewers into the container to fully coat. If there’s extra chocolate, let that drip back into the bowl for the next marshmallow!
- Place the marshmallow stick back onto the baking sheet and immediately sprinkle with sanding sugar. Then repeat this with all of the other skewers.
- Let the chocolate set completely before moving onto the next step!
4 – Finish the Tigger Tails
The last step in making these Disneyland copycat Tigger Tails is to add some tiger stripes to the marshmallow sticks!
- Melt the chocolate in a small microwave safe bowl (just like you did with the white chocolate above) but this time in 20-second increments, stirring in between, until the chocolate is smooth.
- Transfer the melted chocolate into either a piping bag or a zipper top bag with a small hole cut out of the corner.
- Pipe tiger stripes onto the tails, alternating sides to get a nice tiger look!
- Let the chocolate set completely.
Once the chocolate on the tails is set, it’s time to enjoy! You can either eat these right away or save them for later using the storage information below!
These would be such a fun treat to use during a countdown to Disneyland or on a dessert table at Disney party or even with one of these cute Winnie the Pooh quotes at a Winnie the Pooh baby shower (one of my favorite girl baby shower themes).
Expert Tips & Storage Information
Make sure your caramel and chocolate are fresh. Stale caramel and chocolates won’t melt as well.
Read through the recipe first. If you’re not prepared and organized, this recipe can be a huge mess!
These are best served the day of of course but you can also store these for up to 3-4 days in an airtight container lined with wax or parchment paper that’s kept in the fridge.
Recipe FAQs
Why are my marshmallows melting when I coat them in caramel?
The marshmallows should soften from the warmth of the caramel, but if they are melting it means your caramel is too hot.
Can I make Tigger tails ahead?
While they are best enjoyed the day they’re made, you can enjoy them for up to 3-4 days. I recommend putting them in a container lined with either wax or parchment paper (so they don’t stick) and storing in the fridge!
