One of my favorite things to do is to teach my 12-13 year old young women at church. I’ve shared tons of lesson handouts and girls camp ideas over the past three years, and I’m hoping with our move to Texas that I’ll be able to work with the young women again.
One of the reasons I love teaching the young women is because it gives me a chance to share my faith and testimony with others, something I don’t do nearly enough, through things like this Godhead lesson and these Godhead handouts.
One of my most recent lessons was on the Godhead and how Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are separate beings that are all united in one purpose. The object lesson I put together for the lesson was inspired by this post and talked about how the Godhead is like a candle.
The physical candle itself represents Heavenly Father. Jesus, the light of the world, is represented by the flame. And the Holy Ghost is the oxygen – you can’t see it but you need it for the flame to burn and can feel its impact and effect in your life. All three are distinctly different things and all three are needed together for the candle to fulfill it’s purpose of giving off light and heat.
When I was walking through my local , I saw a section of awesome gifts and home decor items in the cards/stationery section and knew these candles would be perfect to give to my girls as handouts.
Not only are they pretty colors, they each have a quote on them to remind the girls of a Christian principle such as letting your light shine and sharing your faith with others.
And I may have purchased a couple for myself to finish off our home styling for our open house last weekend. The colors matched perfectly.
Along with the candles, there were tons of other fun items to choose from in great bright colors. I had to pick up some of the other fun home decor items because who doesn’t need a daily calendar reminding them of how much God loves you and has done for you. The calendar and notepad will fit perfectly in my office in our new house!
With fewer and fewer Christian stores out there, it was nice to see Walmart’s shelves filled with things that I can feel good about putting in my home. And things that make creating cute handouts for my girls just a bit easier.
To help remind the girls what the candles represent, I created this little printable poem to help remind them of how each member of the Godhead is represented in a lit candle.
I gave each of my girls a printed poem and candle to take home and add to their bedroom as a reminder to constantly strive to strengthen their relationship with Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost.
