When it comes to the Christmas holidays, there’s little I love more than spending time with my boys in the kitchen., even if they are just there for the taste-testing!
They get a kick out of it anytime I start making Grinch-themed desserts. Who am I kidding, who doesn’t love treats inspired by how the Grinch Stole Christmas!?
This Grinch fudge recipe is our most recent chewy fudge recipe that would make a great addition to a Grinch charcuterie board or a dessert platter right alongside my Grinch Oreo balls, perfect for a Grinch movie night!
It is super easy to make with a handful of ingredients, green coloring, and a single red heart for that recognizable look!
Little pieces of fudge make a delicious addition to a dessert tray of assorted treats and because it’s so sweet, it’s hard to overindulge. One or two pieces are just enough to leave room to sample other things, like a serving of my whimsical Who pudding!
The sweetened condensed milk does a great job of keeping the candy nice and chewy, and while it does take a little while to set up, it’s virtually hands-off after that.
I think Dr. Seuss himself would agree that these are simply irresistible and perfect to add a little holiday cheer!
Why you’ll love this
- Versatile – I love how easy Grinch fudge becomes a fun and edible gift idea! They’re safe for schools which makes them great for teacher gifts for the holiday season, potlucks, and bake sales (or no-bake sales, I suppose).
- Easy – Once you’ve melted the chocolate and stored everything to combine, it’s just a matter of pouring it into the tray and packing your patience. Like any fudge recipe, it does need time to set, but that first bite will remind you why it’s always worth the wait.
- Perfect texture – Creamy, chewy, fudgy, and melt-in-your-mouth smooth is how I would describe Grinch fudge. We use a double boiler to melt the chocolate low and slow so that no lumps are left behind.
Ingredients
Ingredient Notes
- White chocolate chips – make sure you get high-quality white chocolate chips, the cheap ones don’t melt well.
- Sweetened condensed milk – Milk that comes in a can and has had most of the water content removed condensing it into a thick creamy consistency. You want the sweetened condensed milk that has sugar to it. Not to be mistaken for evaporated milk.
- Vanilla – If you were skipping the green food coloring, I would suggest clear vanilla extract to ensure the brown extract doesn’t tint your fudge. However, because we’re using green coloring, use what you’ve got! You’ll still get green fudge even with regular vanilla.
- Green food coloring, oil-based – With so many types of food coloring on the market now, it’s hard to know what’s what. Look for oil food coloring that is meant for exactly this type of recipe and all sorts of candy, chocolate, and other high-fat confectionary. The green gel food coloring is perfect for making Grinch fudge!
- White almond bark – This can be substituted for white candy melts if that’s what you have on hand.
- Heart sprinkles – If you can’t find them locally, you can always order the red candy hearts off Amazon.
How to make Grinch Fudge
This is one of the most easy fudge recipes even because it doesn’t really have a lot of mix-ins other than the green food coloring! It’s just making the mixture, letting it cool and harden in a pan, and decorating it later!
1 – Make the Fudge Mixture
- Start by lining an 8×8 square baking pan with parchment paper then set aside for later. If you don’t have parchment paper, you can also spray it with non-stick cooking spray but it’s so much easier to cut later if you use parchment!
Tip!
If you don’t have an 8×8 square baking dish, you can use a larger square dish like a 9×9 square pan, just know that the fudge will be a little thinner than the pictures you see here. You could even make this in a 9×13 baking dish if you don’t have anything smaller, I would just recommend doubling the recipe.
- In a medium saucepan, combine white chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, butter, and salt.
- Turn the heat to medium heat and stir all the ingredients together until they are almost melted. Do not overheat the chocolate or it will be too dry to work with, so it’s important to keep the melting temperature fairly low!
- Take the chocolate mixture off of the heat and continue to stir until all the ingredients have fully melted and smooth.
- Once the chocolate is smooth and melted, add in one teaspoon of vanilla. Swirl again until the vanilla is fully incorporated into the chocolate mixture.
- To get the vibrant green color of this fudge (that looks like the Grinch), add four to five drops of green food coloring. Oil based food coloring is the best to use with chocolate because it will fully combine into the chocolate and give the best color! If you want a darker green, add a few more drops of food coloring.
2 – Chill and Cut the Green Fudge
- Once the fudge is to a color you like, pour it into the prepared baking dish from earlier.
- Let the fudge sit at room temperature for 4-6 hours or until it has fully set! Or you can put it in the fridge if you need it to set quicker, just don’t forget about it in the refrigerator completely or it’ll be too hard to cut!
- Take the parchment paper by the two sides and pull it out of the pan and place it on a counter.
- Cut the fudge into 16 equal pieces. If you want more fudge or less fudge, you can always cut it smaller or larger pieces than I did!
3 – Decorate the Grinch Fudge
- Place the almond bark into a microwave safe bowl and melt the almond bark in 30 second increments until it is fully melted. Make sure to stir between each 30 second increment.
- After the almond bark has fully melted, add four to five drops of green food coloring. Again, if you want the green to be darker add a drop or two more of food coloring until you reach the desired color.
- Put the melted almond bark into a zipper top bag and cut a small corner of the bag to drizzle the almond bark over the fudge.
Note!
You can technically add the drizzle to the Grinch fudge before you cut it, but it looks much prettier if you cut it first and then decorate. If you drizzle ahead of time, the drizzle tends to get quite messy while you’re cutting!
- While the almond bark is still wet, immediately put a heart on the top.
- Let the almond bark set completely so it’s cooled and not sticky to the touch and your Grinch fudge is ready to be served!
You can either eat this right away or store it at room temperature until you’re ready to serve! It’s a really fun addition to these Grinch snacks or these Grinch cookies when you’re watching the Grinch movie!
Tips & Storage Info
Skip the drizzle if you prefer. In this case, you would add the hearts before placing the fudge in the fridge to harden in the first place so the hearts are stuck to the Grinch fudge as it chills.
Add peppermint extract in place of vanilla for a minty kick.
Be sure to line your pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Not only does it prevent sticking but it’s much easier to lift for slicing and serving.
Wipe the knife blade clean in between each cut. Using a clean sharp knife is how you get clean edges for each piece of Grinch fudge.
Store any leftover Grinch fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks!
