Grinch Party Games
I had no idea how popular the Grinch was until I shared my Grinch brownies a few years ago and they went absolutely viral! Since then we’ve had a Grinch Christmas party every year with all sorts of fun Grinch party ideas and Grinch food!
It may be one of my favorite Christmas traditions and it’s not just because it means I get to make my Grinch charcuterie board and drink Grinch punch. I’m just a big fan of themed parties and Grinch is a really fun theme (especially if you branch out to Whoville and things like Who Pudding)!
You can’t have a Grinch party without Grinch games and these are some of my favorites that we’ve ever played as well as a few from other people that I know play a lot of games!
39 1/2 Foot Pole
Everyone knows you don’t touch the Grinch even with a 39 1/2 foot pole (according to one of the best Christmas songs out there) but in this game you do. Or you’re trying to!
Give each team 39 1/2 pieces of plastic straw, a pack of toothpicks, and tape. When you say go, teams have to use all of the straw pieces to make a “pole” that they use to touch a Grinch across the room. First team to touch the Grinch wins the game!
Stealing Christmas
Put a bunch of Christmas items (gift boxes, wreaths, stockings, stuffed animals, ornaments, etc.) in the middle of a room. Have all players stand around the room and give each player a string with a hook of some sort on the end of it. We used the ends of metal hangers turned into hooks.
When you say go, players have to toss their string toward the pile in the middle and try to hook something on it. If they hook something, they pull it back toward them. Keep going until all of the items in the center are pulled back to player’s locations and the person who stole the most wins.
Christmas Light Crushing
Place balloons upside down on top of cups (so they look like ornaments) on one side of the room. On the other side of the room, give the player a thick milkshake straw and a cup full of mini chocolate chips.
When you say go, the person has to shoot the chocolate chips across the room through the straw to try and knock the balloons off the cups. Time them and the person who knocks them all off the fastest wins.
Or if you want everyone playing at once, split into teams and do two different colors of balloons. The first team to get all of their balloons off the cups wins.
Grinch Grab Game
Make this Christmas punch game and fill it with prizes, treats, etc. as well as one single heart. Ask people Christmas trivia questions and when someone answers the question, they get to punch out a cup and win the prizes inside.
You could also do this with Christmas bingo or Christmas music bingo too! Whoever gets the heart inside their cup wins one of these Christmas prizes (or whatever you want as a special prize).
If you want all of the supplies for this, someone on Amazon copied my game and is selling all of the supplies as a package here.
Grinch Gift Exchange
This fun Grinch gift exchange idea will have people bring wrapped gifts and switching them around the circle as you read the original Grinch book. It’s a fun Grinch theme variation on a typical right left Christmas game and so much fun!
You could do white elephant gifts, Grinch themed gifts, green gifts, or pick another one of these fun gift exchange ideas for your gift exchange!
Grinch Themed Gift Exchange
Not to be confused with the actual Grinch book gift exchange explained above, this would be just choosing one of these gift exchange games and making it Grinch themed. I’d personally go with chews your own gift exchange or this December dice game.
Here are a few ideas that could be really fun:
- Gifts have to be green
- Gifts have to include a heart in some way
- Gifts have to be something that might be found in Whoville
- Gifts have to be over the top Christmas themed (that the Grinch would hate)
- Gifts have to be Grinch themed in some way
Stealing Christmas Presents
Split into two teams. Give each team a bag full of presents and have them both stand on one side of the house. When you say go, teams have to transfer all of the presents (one by one) from one side of the house to the other without walking or stepping with a present in hand in any way. They can only pass the presents one by one to each other to move them.
The first team to transfer all of the presents wins! This one is also super fun if you do it across the entire house like up and down stairs too! Also, if you drop a present, it has to go back to the beginning of the line!
Grinch mad Libs
Grab the Grinch themed story from this Christmas mad libs post and let people come up with silly retellings of the Grinch story! This one is super fun for kids but honestly the adults were maybe the most into it!
Welcome Christmas Relay
Split your group evenly into teams of 4-5 people. For each team, you’ll need to have Scrabble Tiles (or just letters printed out) that spell out the phrase Welcome Christmas.
Place each set of letters on a table on one side of the room. Have teams stand in lines (like a relay) on the other side of the room. When you say go, one person from each team has to run down to the table and make at least a four letter word out of the letters of Welcome Christmas. Once the judge approves their word, that word gets written on a poster board for everyone to see and can no longer be used, and the person runs back and tags their teammate.
The next teammate goes and comes up with at least a four-letter word that’s not on the poster board already then goes back and tags their teammate. The team that gets through all of their players first wins!
Grinch Bingo
As someone who plays Christmas movie bingo every year, I can tell you that it is always a crowd favorite. It’s even better when you can use bingo cards that match it to your theme like these fun Grinch bingo cards.
Pin the Heart on the Grinch
This pin the heart on the grinch game is a fun adaptation of a timeless party game that is great for classroom parties. It’s also a great game on a budget since you can make it at home with nothing more then pen and green paper.
Or if you’re not super artistic (like me), you could always buy a copy of this game here, no drawing involved!
Grow Your Heart Game
Party games don’t always have to be things you make. This fun Grinch card game is budget-friendly and can be delivered to your door. You’ll love how fun, fast-paced, and family-friendly this game is. I bought it for my boys last year, and it’s a lot of fun!
Hit the Grinch
This fun balloon target game will have you decorating balloons to look like Grinches (or use ones like these that are already created) to win points for your team! One of the cutest Grinch party games ever!
Grinch Minute to Win It Games
This fun post has all sorts of Grinch themed games that the kids may have played in Whoville! Everything from wrapping people up in a Grinch Santa Suit to a hidden who hash game! You could use one or use all of them for your Grinchmas celebration!
Grinch Movie Watching Game
Having a movie watching Grinch party? Print out some of these Grinch movie printables and play along while you watch! It makes a movie you’ve seen a million times even more fun when you play games that go along with it!

More Christmas Games
And if you’re not particular about them being Grinch themed, here are some of our most popular Christmas games that might work! They’re what I like to call Grinch adjacent!
- Reindeer games – tons of reindeer themed games, since you know the Grinch had one reindeer (dog)!
- Candy cane games – Grinch was a master of using candy canes to steal Christmas, so I’m willing to bet he’d be a master of these candy cane games too!
- Christmas games – while most of these are designed to be minute to win it games (aka quick and easy), many of them have generic Christmas themes you could totally Grinchify!
- Saran wrap game – this fun variation of a classic saran wrap game uses coal cards for challenges, that seems like something the Grinch would leave!
- Christmas Floor Game – the Grinch shows up a bunch in this fun game inspired by the popular gameshow. It’s one of our most popular games this year! Or you could always try this Christmas Jeopardy game too where the Grinch is featured!
