No holiday party is complete without a big bowl of refreshing party punch! Whether it’s a traditional Christmas punch or a fun and festive, themed Grinch punch, having a big bowl of it on hand is always a good idea. It just makes any Christmas party!
This gumdrop punch has been highly requested this year and is definitely one of our favorites! I don’t know who gets more excited about it, me or my boys!
This Christmas sherbet punch recipe is basically a whimsical Whoville version of a classic holiday punch, and in fact, it’s two recipes in one. One is raspberry sherbet with cherry soda and the other is lime sherbet with lime soda. One is bright colored an one is a lighter white colored for more of a snowy wonderland version.
Both are garnished with whipped cream and colorful gumdrop stir sticks.
When serving this at your Christmas parties, your guests will appreciate being able to choose which kind they get and the kids will love being able to try them both!
Why you’ll love this
- Festive – The Christmas-y colors along with the layer of fluffy whipped cream and gumdrop stir sticks makes this a super festive and fun drink!
- Kid-friendly – A fun and special drink that everyone can enjoy. Drink first, and eat gumdrops after!
- Easy to make – As long as you’ve got your flavor of sherbet (or sorbet) and your flavor of soda chilled and at the ready, you can make this gumdrop punch in minutes for just your family or an entire party!

Ingredient Notes
As you can imagine, this sherbet Christmas punch can just as easily be served as a rainbow sherbet punch for all kinds of holiday celebrations and special occasions. Whether it be a bridal shower, birthday party, Valentine’s Day, or a New Year’s Eve party, you can make substitutions for different flavors and colors depending on what you have going on.
- Sherbet – if you’re making the lighter version, use lime sherbet. If you’re making the brighter red version of this punch, use raspberry sherbet.
- 7Up – Sprite or lemon-lime soda would work as well for the light version. If you want to make the red version, cherry 7-Up is best.
- Gumdrops Candy – If you’re going for a Christmas theme, stick to red and green. If you’re going for a fun twist, use all the colors! Whoville is a colorful and imaginative place after all!
- Garnishes – you’ll also want to have some spray whipped cream on hand to add a festive garnish to this punch after you serve it!
Note!
All of the pictures in this post are of the red version of the punch because that’s my personal favorite (raspberry sherbet makes everything better), but the lime sherbet + lemon-lime soda option is great too, especially for something like a winter wonder Christmas party theme or Nutcracker party.
How to make Gumdrop Punch
Just like with all of our drink recipes, this punch is super easy to make! It’s just combing the ingredients together, mixing, and serving chilled!
Also, I prefer to serve this individually in glasses because of the fun gumdrop garnishes but you could also just add the full ingredients into a punch bowl or pitcher and serve it that way too!
1 – Make the Punch
Fill each small cup with a scoop of sherbet, filling it about 1/3 of the way full. You can fill all of the glasses with the raspberry sherbet or do half raspberry and half lime sherbet.
Once the sherbet is scooped into each cup, pour about 1/2 cup (4 ounces) of lemon lime soda over the lime sherbet and 1/2 cup (4 ounces) of the cherry sherbet over the raspberry sherbet to finish this simple 2-ingredient punch!
Tip!
Make the quicker to pour and serve these drinks by prepping the sherbet scoops ahead of time. Scoop out one scoop of sherbet into your plastic cups, place them on a baking sheet (or in muffin tins if the cups fit) and place in the freezer until you’re ready to serve. Then pour the drink over them right before you serve!
2 – Garnish and Serve
Right before you’re ready to serve, add a swirl of spray whipped cream to the drinks and add a toothpick with gumdrops on it for a fun finishing touch!
Serve chilled! These would be so fun to enjoy with some Grinch brownies or Who pudding to go with these Whoville themed drinks after a round of Grinch games!
Make a Large batch
Want to make this for a large group instead of individual cups? It’s just 7-up and sherbet so here’s how I’d do that instead:
- Add the entire half-gallon of sherbet to a large punch bowl. Use a wooden spoon to break it up slightly but no need to form perfect scoops.
- Pour the entire 2-liter bottle into the punch bowl on top of the sherbet. Use the same wooden spoon to mix the two together without totally dissolving the sherbet.
- Serve into individual cups and let people garnish their own with whipped cream and gumdrop stir sticks if they want.
Tips & tricks
Add extra garnish. You can add red sanding sugar to the rims of the glasses.
Make it without soda. If you want to make a special treat for the kids but aren’t a fan of soda, use fruit juice instead. Fruit punch, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, or Hawaiian punch is a fun twist as is using a skewer of orange slices and fresh cranberries instead of the gumdrops.
Set up a fun DIY Gumdrop punch bar! Have everyone scoop their own ice cream, choose which soda they want, and garnish it to their liking! Kids love skewering gumdrops and eating them along the way.
It’s best enjoyed right away. Don’t let these sit for too long. The whipped cream and sherbet will both melt into the drink. It’s actually tasty that way but not the same!
Recipe FAQs
What size cups should I use?
This recipe works great using 9 oz punch glasses. If you want to double the recipe you can use larger glasses. It’ll serve as many people as it can until your soda and sherbet run out!
Should I add ice cubes to my gumdrop punch?
No need for ice cubes. I mean, you can, but the sherbet will cool the drink down. Plus, the soda should be kept in the fridge until you pour it anyway.
What can I use to skewer the gumdrops?
Whatever you’ve got on hand. Think toothpicks, coffee stir sticks, or wooden kebab skewers cut smaller.
