One of my favorite things about Valentine’s Day, other than all the fun Valentine’s Day games, is the cute Valentine’s Day food!
All things heart shaped, sweet, and colorful, I love them all!
This layered Jello dessert takes all of those things and put them into one fun Valentine’s Day dessert full of layers of jello, creamy whipped cream, all with a little fruit and sprinkles on top.
It’s everything people love about Valentine’s Day in one pretty package! It’d also be a really fun surprise at the end of a Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt or for a Galentine’s Day party like this girls craft night!
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Easy – these may be impressive looking, but they’re actually really easy to make! It’s just pouring jello and jello mixtures into layers in a cup!
- Versatile – while I’ve made mine using strawberry and raspberry jello, you could easily switch up this dessert idea and do it for another holiday with say lime jello for St. Patrick’s Day or a variety of pastel colored jellos for Easter!
- Beautiful – this is one of those desserts that people look at and think ooh that’s too pretty to eat (then they eat it anyway).

Ingredient Notes
- Jello – I recommend using your favorite red jello in this recipe. You can either use all the same or use different flavors such as strawberry, cherry, and raspberry.
- Cool whip – this is best with extra creamy Cool Whip but if you can’t find extra creamy, regular Cool Whip works fine as well!
- Raspberries – while I wrote raspberries, you can really use any fresh fruit you want. I like to match the fruit on top to the flavor of jello I chose, in this case raspberry.
How to Make this layered jello dessert
The process is a little time-consuming only because you have to let layers cool before you add another layer but in general, making these layered desserts is really easy to do!
To start, make one package of Jello according to the instructions on the box. Most likely you’ll combine the jello mix with one cup of boiling water one cup of cold water. But just in case, make sure to read the box.
Divide the Jello into a single layer in four cups and place them in the fridge to set, this typically takes about an hour.
Next, make another package of Jello according to the instructions on the box.
Once you’ve combined the jello with the water, fold in eight ounces of the cool whip until it’s nice and creamy.
Then once the first layer is set, divide your second jello mixture into four and pour it over the first layer and let it set – another hour or so.
Repeat the same process with your third and fourth boxes of Jello (making the third box as normal and the fourth box with Cool Whip), to finish off your layered desserts.
Make sure that each of the layers has hardened completely before moving on to the next.
Lastly, top with whipped cream, sprinkles, or berries, if desired.
Put the glasses in the fridge and chill until you’re ready to serve. Serve chilled with all of your favorite garnishes on top.
Expert Tips
Make the Jello cups up to 24 hours in advance, other than the whipped cream and garnishes. Keep them in the fridge until ready to serve and garnish right before serving.
Shorten the amount of time it takes to make these by doing less layers. Do just two or three thicker layers instead of the four the recipe calls for. You’ll still get the same great flavor, just a little different look.
Remove fruit on top, wrap the tops in plastic wrap, then refrigerate any leftovers in the fridge for up to three days. Re-garnish when you’re ready to enjoy again.
Recipe FAQs
How long does it take a layer of jello to set?
It typically takes somewhere between 20-30 minutes for a layer of jello to set, but I would plan on a bit longer for this recipe to make sure that it is totally set.
Can I put Jello in the freezer to set?
While technically you can put Jello in the freezer to get it to set quicker, it comes with a risk because if you leave it in the freezer too long, you lose the consistency of jello and get something soft and mushy instead. I recommend just sticking with the fridge instead. If you don’t have time to make these layered jello cups, you can always try something fast like these Valentine’s Day rice krispy treats instead!
