Amaze your kids with these DIY balloon planets that are perfect outer space party decorations! This post may contain affiliate links.
For my Disney outer space party a couple of weeks ago, I knew I wanted to hang planets from the ceiling. But I didn’t just want regular planets, I wanted massive ones! I ordered some 36″ balloons from Celebration Lane and some hula hoops from Target and turned them into my favorite part of the party table! Here’s how I made them.
Supplies:
- 36″ balloon
- hula hoop (make sure to buy one that will fit around the balloon)
- clear fishing wire
- Command Brand party ceiling hooks
Instructions (recommend you do this with two people)
Step 1 – Have one person hold the hula hoop at the approximate height you want them to hang. Have the second person measure the hula hoop to the ceiling and cut a piece of string a little longer than the distance from the string to the ceiling. Tie the string to the hula hoop then repeat two more times so that you have three strings tied to the hula hoop.
Step 2 – Once the strings are tied on, hold the hula hoop up again. Press a Command Brand party ceiling strip to the ceiling above where each of the strings will be placed so that you have three Command Brand hooks on the ceiling.
Step 3 – Tie the strings to the party hooks and hang the hula hoops. Adjust the strings as needed to get the angle you want.
Step 4 – Place your balloon in the location you want it inside the hula hoop. Measure a piece of clear fishing wire from the knot on the balloon to the ground. Tie the piece of fishing wire to the knot of the balloon and THEN remove the regular balloon ribbon from the balloon. Tie the fishing wire to a weight to keep it in place inside the balloon.
Step 5 – Repeat all of the same steps for the second planet. Hang and enjoy your awesome new creations.
