Star Wars Perler Beads
My family is full of Star Wars super fans. They’ve watched all the movies, all the shows, and pretty much everything Star Wars they can get their hands on.
They cruised on the now closed Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser twice and my husband’s wardrobe is pretty much clever Star Wars shirts disguised to look like normal graphic tees.
When I say we’re a Star Wars family, I’m not kidding.
I’ve been planning a day full of fun May the 4th things to do and thought it’d be fun to start with this little craft because my boys really like making things with their hands!
I’ve included ten different Star Wars perler beads patterns in this post so that you can make these as well if you’d like. Or you can always use these as a general idea and get creative!

Supplies
Supply Notes
Making these Star Wars perler bead patterns is easy and requires a few basic supplies. If this is your first time making perler beads you will need to buy some supplies upfront, but you can use them again and again!
Here’s everything you will need.
- Perler bead patterns – at the bottom of this post you’ll find a link to download these fun Star Wars perlead bead templates. This file contains patterns for popular characters like Darth Vader, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker.
- Perler beads – make sure to get colors that match the pattern you chose, or a variety pack so you can make more than one. These can be found at a craft store like Hobby Lobby, online, or most places that have a crafting section. I highly recommend getting a pack that is already sorted by color rather than one of those giant buckets that are all mixed together!
- Square pegboards – these come in a variety of sizes, if you have some that are smaller you can connect them to fit your design or buy a large square board. They’re super cheap and can be used over and over again.
- Ironing sheet – this normally comes with the beads when you buy a kit, you can also use parchment paper or any other heat-resistant paper.
- Tweezers – these are optional but can make it much easier to put in those final pieces. Plus, they’re good for developing fine motor skills!
- Iron – this is needed to fuse your beads together at the end. You can also use something like a Cricut EasyPress or even the Cricut MiniPress if you have one.
- Accessories – if you want to turn your perler beads into a keychain, magnet, or some other sort of thing – you’ll need accessories too! These are totally optional but adding them here so you don’t forget if you want them!
Tip!
You can also just buy a fuse bead kit like this one that comes with perler beads already sorted by color, pegboards, ironing sheets, and even tweezers! It can often be even cheaper than buying things separately and give you lots of color choices!
How to Make Star Wars Perler Bead Crafts
With all the supplies bought and ready to go, it’s time to get started creating these awesome Star Wars characters.
This process is so easy that you could do it over and over again! I know my boys will probably all want to make at least two or three characters each!
Before you get started, download the file at the bottom of this post and print out the characters you’d like to make! I always go for Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) while I’m sure my boys will go for the dark side characters like Darth Vader!
1 – Use the beads to create your design
- Place the beads in the pattern of the character template you chose right on top of the pegboard. Tweezers will make it easier to place the beads into place onto the pegs, especially as you get toward the end of your design.
- Continue until all the beads have been placed into the pattern. Feel free to use new bead colors to your preference or follow our patterns exactly!
- Once all the beads have been placed, make sure all the pieces are correctly aligned before moving on.
Note!
I highly recommend doing these on the pegboards rather than directly on the templates so if you bump it or something happens, they don’t go everywhere! The image below shows the beads on top of the template for photo purposes only. I’d definitely use the pegboards, especially if you’re new to perler beads!
3 – Iron beads together
- Place a piece of parchment paper or ironing paper on top of your finished bead design. Make sure the paper is covering the design so the iron doesn’t melt the beads.
- Heat the iron to a medium heat without the steam.
- Once the iron is heated up, slowly and gently iron on top of the parchment/ iron paper in a continuous circular motion for 10 to 20 seconds.
Tip!
Make sure not to let the iron sit in one spot too long or it will melt the beads. You only want the beads fused together and slightly melted but not so melted that they blur together.
3 – Finish Your Star Wars Craft
- After the beads are fused together, peel the parchment paper from the beads. Then gently bend the pegboard to take the beads off and your craft is finished!
- After the craft is done, you can add a magnet, a keychain, or glue on any accessories.
Tips & Tricks
Turn these into an awesome gift that the whole family will enjoy getting by adding a keychain or magnet and then giving away an entire set of them to another Star Wars loving family!
Work on these on a small flat surface, like a cutting board, that you can easily move around to set aside and finish later. Transportable crafts are the best!
To make placing the beads easier, start from either the top and work your way down or the middle outwards.
Make some of these fun Star Wars food items to snack on while you work on your perler beads! They can take a little bit of time to make and snacks always help with patience!
