There are over 100 different summer party ideas with party themes for kids, teens, adults, and the entire family!

six images of summer party themes

Summer may not be the most popular time to have a party (hello Christmas party ideas!) but it’s personally one of my favorites because summer means less responsibilities, less schedules, and beautiful (albeit hot) weather!

And don’t think a summer party has to just be a traditional backyard BBQ or pool party. I’ve collected a ton of different summer party themes that range from European inspired extravaganzas (summers in Greece are amazing) to parties centered around summer flavors!

There are elegant summer party themes, kid-friendly themes, and of course ideas that are perfect for the entire family! Hopefully it sparks some ideas and helps you get excited to host the best summer soiree ever!

Water Summer Party themes

Unless you live in the Arctic, summer is hot. Everyone knows the best way to cool off is with water. Here are some of the best water-themed parties you can throw this summer.

Dunk And Donuts

This popular coffee shop is now one of the best-themed pool parties on the internet, dunk and donuts.

Beat the heat by turning your pool into a treat box, filled with colorful inflatable donuts. Dunk into the cool water and enjoy relaxing in the inflatables. Or try out one of these super fun pool games.

Continue the sweet treats outside of the pool with these delicious rainbow donuts or sparkling mint lemonade. Make it a whole day affair with these fun donut party ideas. You’ll find great decor, food, and favor ideas. Perfect for turning your pool party into a birthday party.

Waterslide Bash

No pool, no problem. Instead, use giant inflatables to cool off. You can find a local company to rent one through or buy an inflatable waterslide on Amazon for a reasonable price. Plus then you can use it all summer long.

Bring this waterslide theme to life with festive summer foods like homemade lemonade, tropical fruit salad, and creamsicle pool party cookies.

Slide into summer with this cool waterslide party theme. It’s fun for kids of all ages and can entertain them for hours.

Malibu Barbie

If Margo Robbie taught me anything, it is that you are never too old for Barbie. There are few things as stereotypical Barbie as a Malibu dream house, with a swimming pool of course, making this Malibu Barbie theme the perfect summer party theme.

Go all in on the Barbie theme with strawberry brownies, strawberry shortcake dip, and shirley temple ice cream floats.

Love the Barbie theme? Go check out these other Barbie party ideas!

Under The Sea

Life is just better under the sea. At least that’s what I learned from my years of watching The Little Mermaid as a girl.

This fun and simple under the sea party theme can be used in many different ways, both in and out of the water. Keep the party on dry land with this DIY ocean sensory bin, ocean popsicles, mermaid punch and octopus marshmallow pops!

Or take it to the water with inflatable sea creatures and dive toys. However, you choose to bring this theme to life it’ll be a blast.

Popsicle Pool Party

You will be shocked by what you can call a popsicle by simply adding a stick. This chill popsicle theme is about far more than keeping cool with a tasty treat.

Get creative as you turn homemade brownies and rice krispy treats into popsicles. Play a game of giant ring toss or make your own popsicle decorations using a pool noodle. The possibilities are endless with this universal theme.

Back To The 90’s Pool Party

This 90’s themed pool party is the blast from the past everyone wants. Complete with cassette tape utensil holders and Kool-aid jammers.

It’s a fun way to celebrate your younger years with friends and family. Not to mention see how much the younger generation knows about 90’s.

Bring back some of your favorite treats with this Kool-aid pie and Dunkaroo dip. It doesn’t get much better than reliving the glory days with people you love.

Beat The Heat

Looking for different ways to beat the heat? Look no further than these amazing beat the heat ideas.

You’ll find everything from summer bingo ideas to pool games to foam water tables. Break up the summer by doing one activity a day or throw a party with your favorite ideas.

Make it even better by serving a refreshing virgin pina colada or watermelon slushie.

Shark Party

What better time to throw a shark themed party than during shark week?

There is so much you can do with a shark theme. Take this shark attack drink for example. It’s fun and absolutely delicious. Or if you don’t want to do individual drinks, this shark punch is great too!

Or make these fun shark Jell-O cups that the entire family can enjoy eating together. Make the most of Shark Week this year, by going all out with a big watch party or having a simple family night with a few festive treats.

Catch a Wave Surf Party

No waves are necessary for this whimsical theme. Instead, hang loose with your friends at a cleverly decorated surfing party. Parties With A Cause gives you every detail on how to recreate this epic party.

Make your party even better with the addition of this fun beach cake. It’s super easy to make but looks great on a party table.

Keep the little guests busy with this interactive beach scavenger hunt. Or print out this summer word search for people to do as they please.

Water Wars Party

Nothing says summer like a classic water-gun fight. This water wars party is all about getting wet and having fun while doing it.

There are a ton of great ideas for decorating that will bring your party over the top without breaking the budget.

Don’t worry if you don’t have enough water guns, you can always try these water balloon games instead. They are fun for all ages and a great way to get the parents involved too.

Splish Splash Bash

Urban Mom Tales has so many great ideas for using things like water tables, splash pads, and even an inflatable dinosaur to make an eventful water party. Not to mention a fun DIY mural wall that the kids can go crazy painting with all sorts of materials.

This is a great way to use all those water toys you’ve collected throughout the summer!

Serve delicious creamy frozen lemonade for the perfect refreshing drink.

Wet’n Wild Party

The thing I love most about this Wet’n Wild party is the food ideas. You’ll find free tags that are perfect for setting up a water party snack table.

This party uses an inflatable waterslide to cool off but you can use anything to get wet, like this slip’n slide.

Let the kids go wild as they get wet with this simple but fun party.

Tropical Beach Themed Summer Parties

What is more summer than a beach with a tropical drink in hand and a lai around your neck? This section is dedicated to the best luaus, beach bashes, and tropical parties you can throw this summer.

Lilo And Stitch Luau

It’s hard not to love Stitch. He is just the right amount of weird, stubborn, and sweet. He was one of my son’s favorite characters we met during our Disney character dining experience. Safe to say I have a soft spot for all things Lilo and Stitch.

This Lilo and Stitch-themed luau by Poppy and Grace is a simple way to personalize a luau to your child’s interest. This idea can work for any character by switching out a few things.

Just promise me you’ll keep the Nutter Butter flip flops, but try it with these homemade nutter butters. They are so good you will thank me later.

aloha luau party table

Flamingo Party

I am not sure if it’s the vibrant pink color or that they are mainly found in tropical places, but flamingos are very summery to me. Especially when paired with the right flowers and a citrus strawberry mocktail.

I Think We Could Be Friends has a ton of simple DIY decorating ideas that would work for any occasion from a birthday party to a baby shower to a pool party.

pink and green flamingo party table

Beach Party

Throwing a beach-themed party is pretty self-explanatory. Just think of all the things you bring to or find at the beach and use that to decorate. If you’re landlocked like me, this palm tree sprinkler and sand box is a decent alternative.

In The Play Room does a fantastic job with making everything on her food table themed. The only thing missing is these pudding sand bucket cups and a beach cake, then it’d be perfect.

party table with a tree skirt in front and surfboard in the background

Summer Beach Bash

What’s the difference between a beach party and a beach bash? To me, it’s all in the details and Kara’s Party Ideas is all about details.

You’ll find perfectly decorated table settings, an ice cream cart (or you could do an ice cream board), a beach ball-filled bouncy house, and a sunglasses stand. All tied into the beach color scheme with balloons. Every detail encourages you to have fun.

table with pink plates and sunglasses in the background

Luau Party

Luau’s are a staple summer party theme for a reason, everyone loves them. This luau does a great job of using cheap items to decorate, saving you time and money.

The only thing I would change is adding these delicious coconut chicken tenders to the menu.

luau background with a tree skirt in front

Tiki Time

This theme highlights those expressive tikis. It reminds me of Trader Sam’s at Disney World with all the tiki faces, grass skirts, and vibrant umbrellas.

Giggles Galore has so many fun ideas for this tiki party. She has games, decor, and food ideas that her teenager loved. That gives me confidence in saying this theme can be used for any age and everyone will be happy.

tiki party table

Tropical Party

Mint Event Design does an incredible job blending all of the best things about summer into one tropical party. It has flamingos, pineapples, palm trees, and of course, bright vibrant colors.

My favorite thing is the pineapple donut board. Or the pineapple palm tree. Honestly, it’s all so good it’s hard to make up my mind.

The only thing missing is a strawberry mojito mocktail in my hand, complete with a festive umbrella.

pink party table with a balloon garland

Key West Party

If you have never been to Key West, think tropical mixed with the right amount of nautical but without the blues. The vibes of this Giggle Living party are the perfect blend of laid back while still having a good time.

Rather than focusing on setting up a big blowout bash, a Key West party focuses on setting up activities that are both fun and relaxing at the same time. It’s a great way for people to go at their own pace and make the most of the day with people they care about.

It reminds me a lot of my time at Beaches Turks and Caicos with the sand dollars, shacks, and drift wood signs. All that’s missing is a little homemade limeade!

Key west themed party

Mediterranean Theme

Let’s start this by saying you do not have to rent a boat in Greece to recreate this Mediterranean theme. It would be amazing, don’t get me wrong, just not realistic for a summer party.

Instead, focus on the things you like about the party and use that for a backyard dinner party. These Greek lemon chicken thighs and Caprese salad skewers would be perfect for the menu!

Or skip dinner and turn it into a movie night and watch Mama Mia while you enjoy time with friends. The possibilities are endless.

pink and blue Mediterranean themed party

Hawaiian Luau

If you have ever been to Hawaii you know how resourceful the locals are. Stacy Ling does a great job of highlighting that with her elegant Hawaiian luau.

All the table decorations are organic like flowers, oranges, pineapples, and more. She even uses the tops of pineapples as plate decor. It’s a great way to pay tribute to the home of the luau.

Make it even more fun by serving this simple tropical mocktail and this tropical fruit salad at the party. Perfect for the whole family.

tropical party with pineapple place settings

Cruise Theme

Growing up my dad used to throw a cruised-themed New Year’s Eve party every year. Complete with his Hawaiian shirt and all. Everyone who came always loved it, so I can confidently say cruise parties are a hit (especially a Disney cruise theme party).

If you have never been on a Disney cruise before check out my post about the Disney Wish and what to expect on a Disney cruise to get a sense of what you’d experience.

cruise theme party decor with various Disney characters

Coastal Beach Party

Time to bust out those blue plates and wooden serving dishes for this coastal beach party. This is a great example of how to strike a balance between classy and over-the-top. It uses just the right amount of anchors and knots so the theme doesn’t get lost in all the shades of blue.

This elegant coastal theme works for a dinner party, boy baby shower theme, or girls’ night in. You really can’t go wrong with something this timeless.

summer nautical theme party

Activity Themes

With school no longer in session, I am always looking for new and creative ways to spend time with my kids. Each year we do a summer bucket list and boredom buster jar that they love but sometimes it’s fun to do things with other people too.

These activity-themed parties are the perfect excuse to invite a few friends over and let the kids be kids while the adults enjoy quality adult time.

Art And Splatter Paint Party

Think paint and sip but with juice boxes. This is the perfect excuse to get together with friends and let the kids get messy while the adults hang out.

This art and splatter party can work for just about any age by simply changing out the art supplies. Okay, and maybe trade out the juice boxes for this delicious blueberry lemonade too.

Go simple with just light snacks and an activity or all out with these fun art-inspired treat ideas that are perfect for an art party.

summer splash party

Bonfire Party

Throwing a bonfire party is a classic for a reason. You can’t go wrong with a fire, s’mores, and good conversation.

This is a great option for adults or teens who want to eat good food and spend time together. Got younger kids? No problem add one of these outdoor games and they will be entertained for hours.

This s’mores bar or s’mores charcuterie board is the perfect addition to a backyard bonfire. Or skip the sticky marshmallows and make these magic s’mores bars instead.

chairs by a bonfire in front of a house

Drive-in Movie Party

It might be getting harder each year to find a drive-in theater to go to, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make one in your own backyard. Sparrows And Lilly have some great ideas for throwing a festive backyard drive-in movie party. My favorite things are the cardboard cars. You can’t have a drive-in without cars.

You can never go wrong with popcorn, but you should check out my Instagram for my movie bucket ideas. You’ll love the themed individual buckets.

carboard car boxes facing large movie screen

Outdoor Movie Night

This is another great option for an outdoor movie night, without the work of making cars for a drive-in theme. Life By Leanna shows how to make a comfy viewing area that will you will want to relax and enjoy the show in.

I normally recommend renting a screen from a company or DIY your own with a sheet. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how reasonable buying an inflatable movie screen is. I think it’s worth investing in if you plan on hosting one or more movie nights.

Summer Paint Party

The balloon arch by Beijos is the perfect inspiration for a paint party. It’s vibrant, summery, and makes you want to be creative. Not to mention is doubles as a perfect photo drop.

This summer paint party has great ideas, including painting, tie-dye squirt guns, and DIY Twister. It’s a great place to get started if you’re looking for summer paint party ideas for any age.

Personalize the dyed shirts with some fun vinyl, like this Disney love design, after they finish drying! Or check out my other shirt designs here.

Book Swap

Grab those old beach reads and trade them with your friends for an easy, themed girl’s night.

Hosting What Matters has great decoration and snack ideas that are right on theme. Check out her literary cookies, they are adorable!

Not huge into reading? No problem. Trade out old baby books, clothes, or home decor instead. The most important part is spending time with friends anyway. And good food. I’d throw a party just to have an excuse to make this homemade Chex Mix any day.

Summer Favorite Things

I’m sure you have heard of, and likely attended, favorite things parties. This is just like it sounds except for it’s focused on summer items.

Jenny’s Cookies throws a beautiful favorite things party. It’s complete with pool floaties, a specialty drink station, and delicious food. She also gives input on how to host and run a favorite things party.

And this summer bingo game would match this theme perfect!

Food Themed Parties

One of my favorite parts of summer is the food. Fresh flavors, refreshing drinks, and bright colors! These parties all have a summer food theme whether it’s summer fruit, outdoor cooking, or summer drinks!

Lemon Party

A few summers ago I visited the Almafi coast and fell in love with all the colors and flavors, especially the use of lemons. This beautiful lemon-themed party by Peachfully Chic is giving me flashbacks to that summer.

This was designed as a dinner party, but could easily be adapted for a baby shower or themed book club.

Let me tell you how perfect these fluffy lemon cupcakes are. They would be the perfect addition to this party.

lemon themed dinner table setting

Tutti-Fruitti Party

There are so many different things you can do with this tutti-fruitti party. Turn it into a vibrant baby shower, birthday party, or summer gathering.

The bright color pallet is perfect for summer. So are the cool refreshing fruits. Serve fresh fruit or mix it up and do something fun like this delicious fruit pizza.

Watermelon Party

Watermelon season is finally here! Which means time for watermelon slushies, picnics, and of course watermelon parties.

This fun watermelon party has great ideas for decoration, including a tutorial for making a watermelon balloon arch. Watermelon is one of those things that you never grow out of, making it a classic theme that works for any occasion.

various watermelon themed treats

Summer Fruit Party

Anyone else find themselves only wanting to eat fruit when the summer heat starts to kick in? Okay, and maybe these s’mores cookies. There’s just something about summer night that make me want all things s’mores.

This summer fruit party uses the decorations to highlight the bright colors of your favorite fresh fruits. You get the bright yellows of a pineapple next to watermelon reds and kiwi green. It’s festive and refreshing in the just right way.

Serving fruit trays can get expensive so make sure you check out my budget tips for a summer charcuterie board to help you save money.

colorful party with a balloon pineapple

Feelin’ Fruity Garden Party

Time to sit back and enjoy all your hard work in the garden with this fruity garden party. This party theme is festive and easy to do on your own with minimal supplies. And it works for any occasion, you don’t even need a garden.

Looking at all these delicious fruits makes me want a glass of this homemade limeade.

colorful fruit themed party cart

Pineapple Party

It feels like you can’t walk into a store right now without seeing a pineapple in some inedible form. With so many great options it makes for an easy summer party theme.

Stephanie Hanna gives a great example of a colorful pineapple party with plenty of good ideas. You’ll find cute ideas for treats, table settings, and DIY decorations.

Mix it up and serve this delicious pineapple bread or pineapple monkey bread instead of the traditional cake.

various colored pineapples with pineapple themed food table

Ice Cream Social

We all scream for ice cream, especially this birthday cake ice cream. Throwing an ice scream social is a great way to get people together and enjoy a delicious treat.

Tell Love and Party does a great job of keeping it simple and focusing on what matters, the people and the ice cream.

I love their minimal setup and decorations that are cute but easy to replicate. You’d even be surprised at how inexpensive it is to buy your own rolling ice chest.

Backyard BBQ Party Ideas

The thing I love about backyard barbecues is that you don’t need a reason to throw one. Of course, you can always have a reason like a birthday party or celebration.

This post has sixty great ideas for hosting a memorable BBQ right in your own backyard. You’ll find everything from decor ideas to games to food. It really has it all.

Table with hamburgers and hot dogs

Berry Sweet Party

This berry sweet theme is perfect for a first birthday or summer baby shower. Plus, this post has a lot of easy DIY decorations that make an impact without breaking the budget.

You could even use this idea for a girl’s night or for an older kid’s party. Just add in berry picking before coming back to the house and enjoy your hard work.

This party is right up my alley since I have a love for all things berry. I love it in all forms from mixed berry cobbler to triple berry mocktail to berry cheesecake fluff salad. If it has berries in it, I know I am going to like it.

watermelon themed party table

Lemonade Stand Party

This post has everything you need to set up a gorgeous lemonade stand-themed party. It’s great for young kids who will spend hours selling lemonade at the stand while the adults hang out.

Of course, you can’t have a lemonade stand without a homemade lemonade. Don’t be afraid to change up the menu a little bit. Try these sweet strawberry lemon cheesecake cones or blueberry lemon muffins with the lemonade.

Pink Lemonade Party

This party by Anders Ruff is inspired by a glass of pink lemonade. It takes the colors and flavors of the classic drink and incorporates it into every element of the party. You’ll find it in the flowers, food, and gift tags.

It’s one of those subtle themes that can be used for just about anything. It’s an easy theme to bring to life without having to go over the top or spend time making every decoration by hand.

Outdoor Pizza Party

You never need an excuse to eat pizza. It’s the most universally loved food in my opinion. My family loves it so much that we put an outdoor brick oven in the backyard.

The College Housewife gives a great example of how to throw a backyard pizza party. It’s simple and focuses on good food and better company.

I’ve got the best homemade pizza dough recipe. It works great for everything pizza like pizza loaf, pizza twists, and even pepperoni rolls.

These summer party ideas are inspired by all of those fun things to do in summer!

This Coachella party perfectly combines hippie vibes with modern bohemian. This party has everything to get you started, from themed treats to DIY decor to costume ideas.

Whether you love music or not this is still a great theme. It’s perfect for any backyard event and works well with hot weather.

This party includes fun ideas for a play fruit stand that the littles will love. It also has a great idea for a sandwich station that’s a nice alternative from the typical pizza.

One of my favorite things about going to the market is trying all the baked goods. Serving things like these strawberry hand pies and TikTok cinnamon rolls is an easy way to incorporate that into the party.

Summer Olympics Party

With the Olympics just around the corner, it’s the perfect excuse to throw a party. I’ve found the best Olympic party ideas out there with everything from food to games to prizes.

If you are anything like my family growing up the Olympics were always a big deal, we even went when they came to Salt Lake years ago. So of course, I had to create some winter Olympics games for my family to play when we watch it together.

You can easily adapt this for any age with just a few adjustments. Try adding fairy wings for younger kids or playing this ultimate water ballon game for teens.

General Summer Theme

Okay, now that we’ve gone through all the summer foods, festivals, and fun – let’s talk about summer party themes that are just that – summer themed! These are some of my favorites because they take the best parts of summer and turn them into a party!

Once Upon A Summer

Relive your favorite fairy tales with this Once Upon A Summer party. It’s a great theme for a princess’s first birthday or a baby shower.

You’ll find elements and characters from some of your favorite fairy tales. Recreate the party with the free printables or make it your own by using similar ideas. You could even incorporate some of these princess party ideas too!

This is a great party theme for all those people with a green thumb or a black thumb like me. It can be hosted in a home garden or decorated with store-bought flowers. Fraiche Living does a great job of making this a universal theme that anyone can do.

It’s also a great choice for kids, have them make paper-clip butterflies and plant flowers to take home while enjoying flower cupcakes.

Nautical Party

Hit the open seas with this nautical dinner party by Craft and Sparkle. You’ll find great DIY ideas that won’t break the bank and still look great. All these ocean elements are reminding me it’s time to go back to Anna Maria Island.

This nautical theme would also make a great baby shower or book club. It would even work great for a boat loving kid’s birthday party. Or you could do a 4th of July nautical party like this one!

Outdoor Glamping Party

Take your camping party up a notch with these outdoor glamping party ideas from Elva M Design. It’s a great excuse to get together with the girls and enjoy a night of camping in luxury.

She has a great DIY fire pot for roasting marshmallows without having the hassle of building a real fire. Or you can skip the roasting altogether and try this s’mores dip. Trust me, it’s delicious.

Backyard Fiesta

Cinco de Mayo shouldn’t be the only reason to throw a fiesta. You don’t need an excuse to enjoy a backyard fiesta with great food, fun colors, and fun games.

Speaking of great food, you need to try this homemade taco meat. It’s the best. Of course, you can’t have a fiesta without a delicious Mexican dessert recipe. And if you really want to go out, this Mexican charcuterie board would be perfect!

Sunset Soiree

Picture the best sunset you’ve ever seen with all the different shades of blues, pinks, purples, and oranges. This sunset soiree uses those vibrant colors as the focus of their party.

There are tons of great food ideas in the post and this mermaid punch or blue punch would be great to wash it all down!

Pink And Orange Party

Bright colors make a great theme for a party. Take this orange and pink party, everything is beautifully decorated like the colors, including the food.

It doesn’t have to be pink and orange, it can be any color or combination of colors. With the main focus being colors, the possibilities for foods are endless. Serve pink punch, strawberry brownies, and orange fluff!

Road Trip Party

I’ve been saying for years that I want to go on an epic road trip for my birthday. This road trip party is the next best thing.

The details make this party great, from the road map backdrop to speed limit signs to air freshener garland. There is so much to look at you could do a road trip scavenger hunt with the decorations.

It wouldn’t be a road trip without snacks. My go-to snacks are this ranch Chex Mix and candied nuts.

Bubble Party

This isn’t your ordinary bubble party. No, this looks more like when you turn the jets and dump an entire bottle of bubbles into a bathtub. Kids and adults alike will have a blast with this backyard bubble party.

It’s a different way to beat the summer heat that doesn’t involve a pool or water toys.

Garden Theme Birthday Party

Homemaking Without Fear does a great job of turning a garden party into a fun party theme for kids. The food is a fun combination of “bugs” and veggies from the garden that kids will be excited to eat.

These lady bug painted rocks are a great activity that works perfectly with the theme.

Summer Camp Party

Pack all the fun of summer camp into an epic party. This summer camp party does a great job incorporating classic camp elements, like a knapsack and badges, into their party.

There are so many great things about camp that you can recreate like these classic camping games.

Desert Oasis Party

This desert oasis party highlights the beautiful things about the desert. It’s full of cacti (without the spikes), southwestern patterns, and neutral colored decor.

It’s a great theme for anyone who loves nature and bohemian vibes and if you need something for you menu, this Southwestern chicken salad would be a great addition!
