Valentine’s Day Color By Number
I am always looking for fun ways to celebrate holidays with my kids, Valentine’s Day is no exception. Some years I go all out with a party and fun Valentine’s party games. Other years I do something simpler like this Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt.
This year I wanted to come up with something small that they could do when they wanted to and that I could take in for my youngest’s Valentine’s Day class party. My kids loved the other color-by-number worksheets, like these Star War color by number printables, that I’ve made in the past, so I thought I’d make a Valentine’s Day version as well!
Color-by-number coloring pages are like math worksheets and coloring pages combined into one. They are great for kids of all ages from preschool to kindergarten students all the way through grade school since they not only work on color recognition and number recognition but fine motor skills too.
Use them at home with your own kids, in the classroom with students, or even as a filler activity during a Valentine’s Day classroom party! However you plan to use these free Valentines Day worksheets, they will be a hit!
Why you’ll love this
- Free printables – it doesn’t get much better than a fun activity that’s also free, and this entire printable pack is free to print!
- Promotes math skills – these are the perfect way for early learners to work on their number recognition skills!
- Color images – rather than just including color words like some color by number pages, I included the actual color so young children can just match the color of their crayon or marker to the one on the page if they can’t read! It’s still a good way to work on number skills!
Six Color by Number Pictures Included
There are six different activity pages, all with different images, included when you download the set of printable worksheets at the bottom of this post. Each sheet has a different printable Valentine design that is perfect for the holiday. Add these to these free printable coloring pages (with a Valentine’s Day theme) and kids will be coloring all morning!
The fun Valentine’s Day color by number pages you’ll see in the set include:
- Hot chocolate cups with cute heart straws (they look like little conversation hearts!)
- Box of Valentine’s Day candy – another good one for older children with smaller sections to color!
- Pair of swans swimming
- A bouquet of roses with a cute heart background – this one is a little more challenging and good for older kids
- A lock and key set – this one is good for little kids with its larger sections to color
- Valentine’s Day mail
Each of the themed coloring pages also includes a color key so you know what colors to use for each number. Or if you want to let kids get creative, they can choose whatever color they want! Just know that if they use their own colors, the images may just not be quite the color you might imagine them to be! Using a red crayon for a swan means it’ll be a red swan!
Note!
Since I made these primarily for kids, I did my best to make the spaces large and the numbers easily visible. There’s nothing worse than frustrated kids trying to do a quiet activity on their own but not really being able to!
Prep the Printable Worksheets
First things first, print out enough of the Valentine’s Day activities so there is at least one page per person. I recommend also having a few extras on hand so if someone messes up, they have one to start over with.
Printing Recommendations
- Print in color otherwise the coloring key won’t work and you really want that color key for younger children.
- Print on any type of white printer paper you want. I typically just use regular copy paper, and it works great!
- Make sure your printer settings are set to print the full image, you want it to take up the entire page.
In addition to printing out the pages, make sure that you also have coloring materials of some sort available for everyone! And make sure you have the colors available for each of the designs. So for instance, for the lock and key page, make sure to have different shades of pinks/reds, purple, yellow, blue, and gray or black!
How to Use the digital downloads
Instead of telling you how to color in these free printable Valentine’s Day color by number pages (that part should be pretty obvious), here are some recommendations on ways you could use these with kids! I’ve done these in various forms and they’ve worked well!
- February math centers – these are good for working on numbers with younger kids, making them great for math centers for say 1st grade math!
- Morning work – color by number pages make great independent work, which I know a lot of teachers do in the morning while other kids are still trickling in!
- Fillers at a Valentine’s Day party – setup a table with Valentine’s Day word searches, these color by number pages, Valentine’s Day i-spy sheets, and other educational activities and let kids take a break and do some activities!
- On February 14th – add in some fun activities like these ones to Valentine’s Day lesson plans at school or just for some fun quality time at home! It’s a great way to celebrate the holiday without a lot of planning or stress!
- Activities for early finishers – taking a test or doing a bigger activity? Set the cute Valentines Day color by number pages out for early finishers to work on! These make a great early-finisher activity!
- Easy activity during Valentine’s Day week – celebrate the holiday of love all week long at home with fun Valentine’s Day activities every day, including these! It’ll make the upcoming holiday even more fun!
Printable FAQs
How many copies do I need to print?
The amount of copies needed depends on the size of the group. You definitely want to print out at least one sheet per person, however, some people may want to do two or there may be one design that is more popular than others, so it’s recommended to print several extra sets. This is a great way to avoid the tears and fights over a certain design!
What age are color by numbers good for?
Color by number pages are best for kids that can easily recognize numbers and differentiate between different colors. However, any age can do it with enough supervision.
