Valentine’s Day Memory Game
A few years ago we made this Halloween recall game as a game that people could play with classes virtually, but didn’t realize how popular it would be once kids were back in school with normal classes too! It was so popular that we made a Christmas recall game that was equally as popular not only for school classrooms but for office parties and group Christmas parties!
With Valentine’s Day being one of the other times that tons of people get together for Valentine’s Day classroom parties, Galentine’s Day, and well just Valentine’s Day parties – we thought it was time to make a Valentine’s Day recall game! It’ll be the easiest Valentine’s Day game you play all year!
If you haven’t played either of those ones before, this game is pretty simple, which is why it’s been so popular! We’ve created two different slideshows you can download for free at the bottom of this post – those slideshows have Valentine’s Day inspired images for people to study then questions to ask (for people to try to remember) after the images.
The most fun part of this game is that people study the images but often times study the wrong things or can’t remember answers to simple questions because their brains are full of so many details! It’s simple to host, simple to play, and a lot of fun to see who comes out on top!
Supplies
The supplies are things you have around the house already. The hard part has been done for you.
- Valentine’s Day Recall Game – this is a downloadable link at the bottom of this page that includes links to Google slides that you can use to play or download to PowerPoint format. If you’d prefer to not get them from this post, you can always buy a copy in my shop here too!
- Pen and paper – everyone playing will need their own pen and paper.
- 1 – minute timer – phones are great for this, but you can also use a timer from a game you have around the house. Even better if you buy a jumbo sand timer like the one we use for our holiday hustle game so everyone can see it!
- TV/Projector – you’ll need something to show the game on whether you hook up your computer to a TV or you just display your TV through a projector.
- Prizes – everything is more fun if there’s a prize on the line.
How to Setup Valentine’s Day Recall
Setting up the game is really easy, like I said the hard work is done for you already since we’ve already created the slideshows!
1 – Test your connection
Nothing is worse than getting ready to play only to get hung up on technical issues. That’s why I always encourage people to get the downloadable game pulled up and test it on the big screen beforehand.
As long as you know how to display a PowerPoint on a TV it should be really straightforward. If you don’t I recommend looking it up on Youtube for your specific devices.
How to Play
This game is all about memory and observation. The goal is simple: answer the most questions correctly based on the image displayed.
1 – Hand out Supplies
To begin, each player needs a pen and paper. This game can be played in pairs, but its more fun as an individual.
Important!
Make sure all the players know that the pen and paper are only for writing their answers. This is a game of memory, not a game of who can take the best notes quickly.
This is also the point at which you will want to hook up your device and pull up the PowerPoint so you are ready to play.
2 – Do a Practice Round
Now that everyone has their supplies, explain the game and run the practice round that is included in the slideshow.
The rules are simple. The host will display a holiday image on the screen for a minute for the players to study. The players want to try and memorize as many details as possible in the time. After the minute is up, the host will move onto the next slide.
The holiday image will be replaced by a list of questions. The players have a minute to answer as many of the questions as they can correctly, using only their memory.
Once the minute is up, the host will review the answers and each correct answer is worth one point (in the real game, not the practice round).
3 – Play the actual game
With the practice round out of the way, it is time for the real deal. There are ten rounds with five questions each in this game, so make sure the players divide their answer sheets accordingly.
Each round will be played just like the practice round with an image up for a minute then a list of questions for a minute. All of the questions are pretty straightforward, it’s just remembering the answers that can be challenging!
At the end of each round, have players grade their own papers and keep track of their score as they go.
Bonus Points!
If any player gets all five questions correct in a round, they get a bonus point for a total for six points that round!
How to win Valentine’s Day Recall
With the rounds completed and answers graded, have each player tally up their final score including any bonus points. The person with the highest score is the winner and earns their prize.
In the event of a tie, use one of these Valentine’s Day trivia questions and whoever gets the answer closest wins!
- Gone with the Wind won the Pulitzer Prize in what year? (1937)
- How much money did the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice make in the US Domestic box office? ($38.6M)
- On average, how many conversation hearts are in a 16 oz bag? (140 hearts)
If you need more trivia questions, this Valentine’s Day kisses trivia game is full of them!
Prize ideas
Prizes don’t have to be anything extravagant or expensive. Here are some of my favorite prizes to give for the love filled holiday if you’re doing this at an actual party and want real prizes.
- Chocolate but make it an at-home Melting Pot Chocolate fondue kit.
- Rose water lotion to help with dry winter weather.
- Teddy bear charcuterie board that is perfect for birthdays or Valentine’s Day.
- Dinner in the form of a gift card.
- Jewelry travel case that keeps everything organized and untangled, perfect for a Galentine’s party.
If this is for a classroom, I’d go with class rewards or treasure box style prizes instead! Any of the things you’d give out with these Valentine’s Day cards for kids would be great!
